300tdi onwards have these plugs nowcan you take a pic of the plugs? just i was sure they were still bullets.. wondering what they look like now

Before writing off the wiring I would bare a little bit of insulation a couple of inches from the wiring loom plug end and re test with the meter. Plugs cause lots of problems. If you have voltage there, it's likely the conductor broken inside the plug, it will still look fine as the insulation hides the break. If there's no voltage there, repeat at the engine end.

Ah, yeah it looks kind of like that. Not as many loose ends though and they're not plugs, they're black end caps of sorts. I've got a tow hitch and lectrics so mine will be wired upi mean the chassis loom end behind the rear panel

they look like standard bullet connections
anyway, if they are, turn lights on, pull out all the red/black (iirc) bullets and your other side should go off. if so then stick the red/black from the broken lamp to the other bullets and one should be the chassis live and light up. or use your multi. if that works, then it's crusty connections with the connector.. give it a clean or twist

The multiplug doesn't have anything to do with the bullets. There's three wires going to it, brake, taillight and earth. They then get twisted up nicely with all of the other wires and disappear down into the chassis rail with the rest of the loom.

ah right ok. i can't remember what it looks like then i'm afraid.
just have to follow the wire back and keep checking with a multi. maybe it's chaffed on the chassis or upfront or in the connector as above.

I take it when you tested the brake light positive, you had someone press the brake pedal?

Brake lights work perfectly fine, it's just the tail light

Run a temp wire from the switch to the bulb holder
or run a wire from the positive on the other tail light as a temp solution

I'll try and see if I can find any breaks in the wire and if not I'll go with the other option of running a wire to it temporarily
