Hi,

I have a 2007 4.2 SC L322 with adaptive headlights.

When I switch the headlights on they both do the “dance”, but the passenger side one has started to intermittently settle to point very low, so it points very much down at the road.

I’ve been to an independent garage who suggested two new lights (apparently they are best to be fitted in pairs) at a cost of just over £1,000 each.

This seems excessive and I wonder if there is anyone who specialises in the repair of these lights (or perhaps it could be a faulty ECU?)

Hi Tom,
Just trawling through the zone and saw your post. I also have an SC with an issue of headlights not dancing that is a way down my to do list but needs sorting.
Firstly, I don’t have a definitive solution for you but would be astonished if our headlights need to be replaced in pairs. That said I’m sure one new and one 15 years old may shine slightly differently but does that mean replace in pairs?
The direction of beam is controlled by a moving shutter so if it dances then settles correctly at first the signal from module is probably OK and it’s a mechanical fault of the shutter, unfortunately, it’s high voltage kit so not sure about opening them up but perhaps you could get the headlamp refurbished?
Does the direction on high beam stay in place?
Also have the garage done a fault code read to determine if headlamp or control module? Better still can you get the codes read yourself?
Perhaps someone else here can offer more but I would think fault code first step.
May need to reply to me in the morning to catch fellow members currently sleeping lol.
Cheers Tricky.

These modern motors make me laugh, 2k for a pair of lights o_O
2007 model? before many more years have passed replacing them will make the car a financial write-off.
I'll stick to Classics
It's about time parts providers/manufacturers realised that the L322 is no longer a 'new' vehicle. Sourcing replacement glass for my n/s mirror brought prices from £301 - £770!

isnt that what fleabay is for
The £301 is from the bay and not OEM. They're not available used, as most of the first generation have the same issue by now. There is one guy selling new old stock for £100+ . Which would be great apart fom the fact they have 'age marks'. I contacted him and they have the same problem, in varying degrees.

I'd say go do it but it won't help :( It's an age related issue. Good news( for some) , it's only the electrochromatic ones it affects. If you do have electrochromatic and don't mind losing the functions, they can be replaced with 'normal' . However, I've spent a lot of time, and money, keeping the Golden Girl standard ( nearly got defeated by stereo) , so want the correct mirrors. I searched , and searched, for around 2yrs until I got the one on o/s , at a decent price. So will keep searching for n/s.

Keep the faith. Mine were replaced as clear not electrochrome by previous owner and it makes me sad every time it gets dark, especially on the motorway.
I have a list of “back to spec” jobs but they’re all waiting for those by chance opportunities to get the parts I need.
Tricky. :)

Thanks :) She passed, her MoT two weeks ago. Which is more time to search. Funny thing with the o/s was the progression: it started very slowly, taking almost a year to affect full glass, then started to recede over another year or so, then came the scattered marks, until the day came where it just had to be changed. This one is still at the initial spread. So we'll see :)

ah yes my center rear view has gone that way

Sitting thinking about this and if you don't have something special( you never know with Range Rover) and it's just a rear view mirror, there are loads available, and they're cheap as chips. So time to replace ;)

Think the sensor for controlling dimming of wing mirrors is in the center rear view mirror.
