according to dvla the 3 is a 1600 diesel and the 2 is a 3 1/2 litre diesel, don't know where the 2 has been because it was first registered in 1988 but built in 1963.the 3 was first registered 09/06/1972.

A reg is Ser II, K reg is Ser III. Is the photo of the engine the green one? That doesn't look like a V8 to me, more like a 2.3 or 2.5 4 cylinder from a 90/110, or perhaps Sherpa or Taxi

yes the engine is from the green one.. i assume the 2.5 must be a v6 or something then the configuration of the manifolds at a glance looked like a v8.

i bought a series 3 2.25 petrol that had stood for six years 120 quid . all the petrol had evaporated so i put some in the tank and some in the top of the carb and it started drove ok but the brakes were seized so took it into the field and drove it till they wernt . just sold it to game keeper for 250 quid. i drained out the rad - full gearbox service and engine service . changed oil in overdrive and steering box and it all cost me a bout 20 quid . ( already had oil for it from farm )and that was stood from 2002 outside.

not as good as a defender off road as it doesnt have trues 4wd .

Think i am going to have to spend a day with them..

I'll service both, oil and fluids.. fresh fuel.. get a good battery...

See which one i can start and then go from there..

How quick can you strip a landy back to bare chassis, and if a chassis is rusty, at what point does it go beyond repair..

Is there any part of the chassis i cannot replace with cut and weld ?

its more a question of what your prepared to spend . you'd be suprised what seamingly piles of scrap have been put back on the road , go for it and see what they are like and go from there .. anythin on a landrover can be replaced or mended ... you could always strip them for spares and let someone else make use of them ...
