Afternoon!

Passenger side air strut has a small intermittent leak, though the usual dash warnings havnt come up, yet.

However left over night one side had dropped a fair bit, raised the suspension and it appears to be holding.

Watched some videos on how to change one, doesnt seem too difficult at all really, though any problem areas or small clips/bolts that would need replacing as well?

To double check the part number is
RNB000740

Cheers
Josh

I think it was the Dunlop one that clonked, Delphi was the good one, I also seam to remember someone saying you could get just the air bag now.

Ahhh £170! Much better! Got the invoice out for the last one £1100 from the dealer :eek::eek:

I saw you can change just the bag but it is a lot more involved and would rather have the car back on the road ASAP.

Though at £170 surely the quality can't be that high, would rather not have to replace it again in a year or two.

Just found Island 4x4 have an OEM, Delphi/BWI for £227 pretty cheap!

Would help if I had the right part number too! For late 07 on

I imagine the £1100 you paid the dealer was for a complete strut. I'd like to know what their labour charge for what looks like maybe an easy 1.5 hrs work.

Is the Island part just a bag or complete strut?

A front bag cost £1100 at dealer, that's criminal.

Never done one but it looks like 20 mins to remove lines & strut, 5 mins to remove old bag, 5 mins to clean shock body, 5 mins to assemble new bag onto shocky, 15 mins to refit strut to car, 5 mins to power up, inflate and check for leaks.

Can you see what the labour portion is within the invoice?

Very much so!!! I had the clutch on my 90 done at the dealer a fair few years ago and they charged me £24.95 for 6 cable ties!!!!!!!

Indeed. Struts en route, going to get it in the garage tonight, let it deflate over the next few days. Get cracking on Friday

What's worth considering here is how old the shock absorber is, it's impossible to see oil misting like you can on coil sprung struts, if they are over 60k then a complete strut would be a better proposition, then it should be a 1/2 hour job marked up to 1 hr to allow the garage a modicum of profit.

And done!

Most the time was taken up as the locking wheel nut key was missing! Shi tty garage down the road nicked it last year!

Such an easy job! If i had to do it again i bet I could do it in under an hour.

£1100 from the dealer is nothing short of criminal.
