Come on then - does anyone have any fuel consumption figures for the
following, solo and towing?

1995 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8TD Auto (or Shogun)
1996 Isuzu Bighorn 3.1D Auto (or Trooper)
1996 Nissan Mistral 2.7TD Auto (or Terrano/Maverick)

3.0D manual import Trooper (solo - mainly motorways) ~ 27mpg

don't have figures for towing yet.

Well I am well satisfied with my Skoda Fabia 1.9l TDI Estate, bags of power
to spare.
60mpg solo, 30mpg towing. Both at the appropriate speed limits.

Beat that ;-)

I can help with the Bighorn. I had a 1994 3.1td auto swb. Solo on trip
around 25-26. Towing - measured from Scottish Highlands to Northampton
sticking to speed limits - 15.5 mpg. Superbly stable, but just couldn't
afford to keep filling it up, plus servicing was expensive.
Sold and replaced with Vectra 2td which does a good job - 30mpg towing.
Hope this helps
Regards
Ken

FWIW, my 3.0D UK Spec Trooper gets (over the last 65,000 miles):

Solo: Overall ~ 26mpg+
Solo: Motorway at 70mph ~ 28mpg+
Solo: Mostly town ~ 24mpg
Solo: Mostly country A roads ~ 30-33mpg

Towing: worst ever ~ 19mpg
Towing: typical ~ 23mpg

Liverpool - Hull - ferry to Rotterdam - by road to Ancona - ferry to
Patras - Patras to some other god forsaken bit of Greece - Ferry to
Zakynthos.

Unfortunately, the chap I was sharing the driving with managed to lose his
way somewhere in France and take us around 100-150 miles out of the way
while I was asleep.

constantly, whether towing or not we did a trip from
the tip of South Wales to Aberdeen ( its a long way, just over 1000 miles)
and back towing a 6 metre car trailer one way with a 25 cwt vehicle on it
cost £160 in diesel . Its had an Allard Turbos intercooler about the size
of a tennis court , but no turbo mods, EGR disconnected.

BLOODY HELL. Use a 7.5 tonner and save 30% on fuel!

You are driving too fast. I do 34 mpg when towing at 50mph with a 1,3T
caravan in my 1.9 TDI Golf TDI.

Solo, I have nothing to tow, in a Td5 I get just over 25mpg tootleing
about locally and nearly 30mpg on a longer run on motorways with the
cruise set to just over 60mph.

What does 1.3T mean - 1300kgs? In which case what is the weight limit for
towing with a Golf GTi

Speed is only one aspect of fuel consumption.

In my 300TDi Defender with Fearns intercooler I seem to be getting MPG
between 27-38! It's got a ragtop so lighter than the metal top, and
it's a pickup so no trim or soundproofing. I've got the 38MPG figures
marked down as "suspect" because it seems too high to me, but it's all
done on the same spreadsheet as other cars I have and it's working out
fine for them. I use the same methods to calculate mileage but 38MPG
out of a 300TDi Defender does seem OTT...
