Hi guys,

My disco 300 tdi L reg has started to judder under the acceleration. Just wondering what this could be, I suspect it could be the front prop, but I don't really know how to tell.

Any ideas?

A simple check might also be to look underneath at the rear proshaft rubber donut (attached to the rear diff) known also as a rotoflex coupling. If it's got bad cracks in the rubber...or worse! then it would certainly add to vibrations etc.

Thank you i will have a look tomorrow and let you know. It does make an awful noise when driving along now but only when under acceleration. Once you take your foot off the accelerator it's fine. I've also noticed when going a long a road at about 30-40 when you go over a slight hill the noise gets louder does this mean anything?

Prop uj mate.get uner landy grab prob and give it a good yank and you will find a uj or few uj are shot.take prop off change them put bk on and your problem will be sorted

Definitely sounds like a prop-related problem.

Either the "rubber doughnut" at the back-end of the rear prop or one or more of the prop U/j's are gone.

To check the U/j's you need to try and twist them to check for wear. This is best done off the car.

Also while you're about it, check the tightness of the propshaft flange nuts and bolts.

I had a vibration on a Def once and it turned out to be loose nuts on the front end of the rear prop. Tightened up the nuts and the bad vibes disappeared.

Good luck

Dave

Hi guys spot on with the info. It was the rubber doughnut that was completely shot and causing the rear prop to basically beat into the diff to make it go round so will be replacing the doughnut and also the prop. It has also caused damaged to the diff where it connects to the doughnut. Are these easy to replace at all?
