i think you'd be better orf trying to convince the peeps who take their kids to school or just do the shopping in one that they DUNT need a 4x4

I think the best thing to do would be tax the pants off any clean or non scratched 4x4s.....that way its make sense on 2 levels.
1 they are used for what they are designed getting dirty inside and out with the kids and dogs.
2 it saves on water and any detergents going into the watercourse.
Whats with these people..even a good friend of mine gave the dred line when he bought his joke cerdes Ml ..he said the thing is i know they are not that good off road ( i told him to get a Disco tD5) but when am i gonna do that..
I coulda screamed...
D

I thought was law that a landrove must have at least one dent and several sctraches from being taken off road:D :D :D

The irony I find is that outside my childs school, in the hot sunny weather there are a good few parents sitting in thier spotless BMW, Toyota (and sad to say, a metallic silver immaculate 90 with road tyres) and other pretend off road vehicles, with all the windows closed tight and the engine busy running to power the aircon ... er, yes, global warming is happening so lets sit and run our engines instead of opening a window! Prats. ... Meantime, theres me in my mud spattered 110 running on biodiesel (and no aircon anyway - I open a window & the vents when it gets hot) used for carrying wood out of the forest and various other practical off-road puroses, getting lumped in with them - yet we could not be more different. I reckon that a vehicle which easily lasts 20 yrs+ (thus replacing 2 -4 cars being built and no doubt outliving the current crop of pose-mobiles) and is running on either biodiesel or veg blend is waaay more "green" than even the most fuel efficient ordinary car running on fossil fuel. I see no similarity at all, and indeed, the green fuel movement in this country seems to have originated largely with Landy drivers from what I've read. Shame we all get lumped together. I keep looking out for a window sticker that would succinctly make this point.

Do you get stuck often then :D:p ;)

I do my greenlaning on scopion ST's as does my mate in his disco We were up in wales couple of weeks ago and the only time he got stuck was when his towbar grounded on some buried rock and he had towed over it. Apart from that we went over everything with ease, including up a wet grassy slope.

has it been said yet? thats a merc G wagon!

but more to the point, its not the fact that we need these vehicles for duties such as mountain rescue, the life guards, and the fire service but people should have a right to enjoy a hobby (or hobbies) whatever it maybe. i personally think horses do more damage to wet lanes than 4x4 as they make them a complete bog, not just two ruts! but i dont go trying my best to be an arse with every horse rider i meet.

i wish people would accept were all different and like different things and live and let live! and the local council would designate a fair wedge of land where us 4x4 drivers can go and play. doubt that will happen though!

tea agree with hobby thing here if you don't know someone with land you don't go.. (in the north eastern U.S. that is)
