hi everyone. well you learn something every day on this forum yesterday another site and abit of a debate about are landrovers selectable 2wd /4wd and guess wot they are. now i always thought they were all constant 4wd but how it works they are all awd in other words all wheel s roll but only the back prop is in operation not the front prop the front prop and wheels come into action when diff lock is selected then this makes it 4x4 drive this then can be taken out to give 2wd, and i know this is right as once i droped in a hole causeing my rear wheels on my manual rangy to lose total traction no both wheels in the air.so i selected diff lock which brought the front prop in and bingo i pulled out.was really happy to know this so the front hubs actually free wheel .now i bet theres afew on here who thought the same as me.

99% sure this guy is trolling. Or at least I hope he is and isn't just ####ing stupid.

As James said, the series Landys had selectable 2/4wd.

Best not even mention Disco 2 traction control..... :D

Actually the very early Series 1 had permanent 4WD and no centre diff. I know because had one. It would 4 wheel drift beautifully round roundabouts in the wet.

A mate has one and I was impressed at a pay and play With what a d2 can do.

Its almost like having front and rear lockers.

I've taken ours to several pay & play days when it was on road tires and always been impressed with what it could get up and through. It was more hampered by it's departure angle than it was by grip.

Looking forward to going back now it's on A/Ts :)

I might be wrong but I thought the lt230 was 75/25 and the borg warner was 50/50 so that mean there still permannet 4wd and the lt230 send most of the power to the front in normal road use but as I said I might be wrong

no they are all equal , both lt230 and borg warner send equal drive to both axles through there center diffs ,borg warner does use a viscous coupling instead of mechanical diff lock which does have some advantages
