Hi all.......my husbands landrover has gone wierd!! we used the low ratio for the first time in a few years due to thick snow...back to normal now...and what happens is the temp guage drops to the bottom the warning light comes on and it loses power...had quite a few problems lately so losing the will atm!! can anyone help with suggestions?? thanks in advance :) oh also the heater hasnt been working properly if that is relative :/
 
Maybe more answers might be forthcoming if this thread were moved to the Discovery section of the forum. We should probably ask @blue beasty very nicely if he would kindly do the honours.
The lack of a working heater would at least indicate some sort of cooling problems but I don't quite understand the temperature gauge dropping to the bottom.
Lack of effective cooling could quite easily lead to a loss of power, unfortunately by the time that happens, the damage has often been done.
 
Hi thankyou bit new to all this and not very good on computers :/ apparently the water tank is empty and coolant...it was serviced 6 weeks ago ....so will it of dammaged the engine? thanks for help

Depends on how low the coolant has fallen, and how long you have driven it.

If the coolant is just below the level of the expansion tank, and you have only done a short distance, it should be fine.

If there is almost no coolant in the engine block, and you have driven for hours, engine may be scrap.
 
luckily didnt drive it very long...fingers crossed thanks for your help...surely couldnt of used it all wondering if minus temps may of busted a pipe somewhere would that be possible?

If there is a broken pipe anywhere, you should see, and smell coolant under the vehicle. And the right concentration of antifreeze should protect against freezing in UK temperatures.

I can see you are inexperienced with landrovers. You need to get into the right habits. Make sure your AF is at the right concentration. Check coolant and oil levels every few days, or even every day you drive it.
And use low range as much as possible, for example reversing into parking spaces. This will prevent linkeages seizing, and get you into the habit of how to engage and disengage low box.

I used to tow cattle trailers for a living. Towing puts extra loads on the vehicle, and makes the checks, top-ups, and careful servicing even more important.
When towing with a Landrover, pump up the rear tyres harder than for normal driving as well.

Depending on the weight of the trailer, about 40-44 psi in the rears, 30 in the fronts for towing.
I would run 30 all round for normal use. But you can leave the higher pressures in all the time.
Noseweight of the trailer is also critical, maybe 30-45 KG for a horse box. Make sure the noseweight is never negative, that can be almost undriveable.

The Owner's Handbook for the Disco 2 recommends 30 psi in the front tyres and 38 psi in the rears. For loading to the maximum weight the pressure in the rears can be increased up to 46 psi.
Tyre inflation isn't an exact science, temperature can play a big part in it, but I try to maintain my tyre pressures to within +/- 2psi of the recommended values.
