Hi guys can anyone help me with a problem i have on my crash damaged discovery 5 2018. The car wont start on the push button unless i bypass the battery terminals and connect to the front terminals via a jump pack. once started runs fine but comes up with "charging system fault". Ive checked the master fuse and most other fuses and relays and no joy. thanks in advance.

Needs codes reading ...

It has had the crash data reset and airbag light is now off. Also had a snap on code reader plugged in but never came up with anything related. That said the codes have been reset.

Shame, the PIDs should have been looked at to see what was happening ... unless it still shows data stream

There may be a fusible link which has been activated due to the impact. There should be a DTC set for it but it depends on how your code reader deals with DoIP
Charging system fault also indicates the BMS is not connected to both poles of the starter battery. Simple voltage & continuity tests are all that is required to identify the cause.

thanks, I might have to get someone out to diagnose it. I’ve tried everything I can do and I hate to say it but it’s beaten me. I’ve put new battery on, new master fuse, checked the fuses I can see with a multimeter including the relays and all good. It must be something to do with the crash, something has blown or needs resetting maybe 🤔

Just a thought - have you had both batteries tested? there should be a secondary one behind the RH side panel in the boot - possibly a capacitor depending upon build spec.

Noting your car was in an accident, Is there a mechanical spring-loaded inertia switch which trips on accident impact to cut power to engine systems such as the fuel pump? Such a switch has to be reset to restore normal operation of the car

Hi guys, I have only recently had the issue sorted. I can now Confirm after booking into a garage that it’s now fixed. They found a break in the main power lead from the battery which runs along the side of the driver side underside. Also they said the pyrotechnics fuse had blown. Strange because I changed it and still didn’t start 🤷‍♂️. The car now starts and charges the battery. Thanks for everyone’s input.
