Landrover dead (looking for ideas)

My mate works in a garage that does Sprinters, he says the Injection systems are an absolute nightmare :eek: He was going to get one for a camper van, but after seeing a few very expensive engine problems at work he went off that, and decided to keep their old Leyland van instead :D

The injection systems the best bit about them always thought merc were reliable till i worked on them... there are no words to describe cdi engines which can be used outside anything goes... seen one with 11,000 miles on the clock throw its chain tensioner off, spat out all its oil and mashed itself to death good thing the warranty lasts 3 years

Very much what my friend says as well! :D The old merc vans thirty years ago were reliable, and a lovely drive, so I don't know where they went wrong with the sprinters.

The v6 sprinters meant to be fairly bulletproof but the 2.2 engine just isnt big enought to cope with such a heavy van... when using diagnostics i always picture the ecu as father dougal from father ted
 
all of those plus 300 can have alignment issues if the later kit isnt fitted, even though previous belt was ok ,it is only the 300 that has these problems, though thats not to say it is ops issue but worth checking

Like someone changes there own brake pads without telling the computer and it brings on a warning cause the pads went for 90% wear to new and it doesnt understand, go onto diagnostics and perform service and i just imagine it saying "oh right ted i understand"

Even the boss of Daimler Benz said their vehicles had become crap after the hook up with Chrysler. Now they have split, maybe things will improve but I wouldn't bet on it. They are also rust buckets.
Chrysler are now part of Fiat which is more appropriate:rolleyes:
 
I've googled and googled but not really seen anything thats 100% what it is.

I will hear back from Garage Monday so will update you all to what caused it.

I had only used the car that day really since it had cam belt done, I usually just use my works car so maybe it's slipped or something.

It just seems strange, it seemed to get better then worse again as it wouldn't start at all in the end.

I hope it's something easy as I've spent a fair bit on it recently to keep it healthy which could seem like a waste of time :(

just a comment on sprinter vans.
I know a few guys who use them as white van men, and do big milages.
one guy has the biggest/tallest sprinter they made and uses it for eastern europe charity runs he and his charity do.
had a cambelt go in poland a while back....was a big headache but eventually got it transported to a merc dealer.
another guy who only does uk deliveries had something go titsup on his inlet manifold, cost him nearly a £grand for new inlet manifold in plastic ??
plus it cost him a weeks hire of another van..
 
Got the landy back today. All been fixed.

The tensioner had gone faulty and caused the belt to slip. Hadn't done any damage to engine.

All running good again :)
