hi i love my landy , great workhorse , bloody thing will not start or is a real problem starting , had new pump , injector loom , ecu flushed , crank sensor , all ran and started fine , now problem has returned , turns over for a long time before it will fire , but when running pulls and runs fine , hard to start hot or cold , but bump starts first time so cannot be a cracked head , i think electrical and helpers out there please im desperate

Check battery voltage. Should be around 13V on a fully charged healthy battery. It might crank the engine OK, but the voltage could be too low for the ECU to operate correctly.

I can't remember if td5's have lift pumps but tht would be a first thought. Sounds like its taking time to suck fuel through to the injectors ? Have you tried cracking off an injector and seeing if fuel comes out straight away ?

good luck with that one :

Could be, but not likely when it runs and pulls OK when started. Read the first post. It bump starts straight away, so that's how he diagnosed an electrical problem.

mine also ran ok when the injector seals were leaking, just a #### to start

Just a thought after doing all of the above I rang a local Land rover dealer and spoke to one of their workshop guys and he told me to take out the small filter in the fuel filter housing, It is only about 10 mm long but it stopped my X reg TD5 defender from starting for 6 months, Without it it goes better than when I first bought it in 2010.
