Company cars do seem to be in decline. SWMBO used to have one but the company (charity) she works for changed their policy. It was nice having a car that we weren't responsible for the maintenance of, but as the only choices were a black 1.6 focus or a red 1.6 focus, and as we wanted something estate shaped with a towbar.
(as she manages events, us buying an estate has actually saved them a fortune in van hire. There's also a couple of events where having access to a Discovery saves them a lot of faff getting around site to set up)
Her volvo is an ex-lease car. Would definitely go down that route again when buying - it came with a very comprehensive service history printout, and everything had been done with OEM parts, Premium brand replacement tyres, etc
When I bought the Disco I did look at whether it would be more cost effective for my business to buy it and for me to have it as a company car, but tax-wise that way lay madness.
