Posting on behalf of my Dad. Sorry, this is a long one!

Basically, his Automatic LR seems to be losing power. Whilst driving it illuminates different faults on the dashboard, lights begin to flicker and the electronic break doesn’t work. He turns off the engine when this happens and goes to start up again and all the lights on the dash are just flickering and a ticking noise is there. When jump started, the engine will restart fine however all the faults on dashboard stay on and if engine is switched off again it will need another jump start to restart. We have noticed that the suspension light and break light appears before all of the other lights come on. Not sure if this triggers the rest of them? May I add, the car radio has not been working either and used to come on when the car was unlocked and up full blast! It has had new batteries fitted and voltage has been tested - all fine. Been to specialists in electronics and they can’t find anything wrong. Car faults and codes got cleared in garage and car was running ok for 2 weeks. He got it washed yesterday and tonight when parked up the suspension lowered and then when restarted and driving for about 10 mins the lights on the dash came back up again and surprise, couldn’t be put into reverse, drive, park due to lack of power and parking break would not go on car had to be stopped, engine off and jump started. Could this be water getting into the electrics? I have searched loads of forums and no one seems to have anything similar that’s happened to them.

Thank you for reading and hopefully someone put there knows a cause.

This is for sure an electrical problem, and to be honest it could be anything, it really needs to go to a specialist to have proper diagnostics put on it as they are such a complicated vehicle it would be nigh on impossible to give anything concrete without being able to plug it in to see what faults have been triggered and what ones are constant.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

When you say "jump started" is the car going flat?

How old is the battery?

An old and weak battery on a RRS will create phantom faults.

Thank you for your reply.

We thought it would be something stupid but yet so hard to find. We will need to book it in again to somewhere else. Thank you very much

The car is fine other than the faults on the dash still being there once jump started, but as soon as you turn the engine off and try to restart it, it won’t start without a jump start. The battery is only a few weeks old and had 2 new ones before that. It has definitely been inserted properly.
Thanks for your reply

Sounds to me like a rather large parasitic draw.

If it is draining a new battery that fast.

Long shot but it's worth throwing the battery on a charger for 24hrs and then retry.

Welcome to the forum:)
has the alternator been checked out as they do play up and drain a good battery in very short order and not charge it back up.

I’m sure the alternator has been checked and all was apparently fine, I’m not convinced though. Will get that checked elsewhere too.
