I've just removed my old 12J 2.5na engine as it was suffering from serious "blow by" and replaced it with a reconditioned engine.

Does anyone want to purchase the old engine to recondition, it comes on a wheeled stand for ease of transportation and the fuel pump?

I've had to srip off a few ancillary pieces to fit on the new engine (alternator, water hose bracket)

Photos to follow, plus I have a short video of the engine running before it was removed.

Do you still have the 12J engine ?
Sorry for the delay in responding, I didn't receive any responses for 9 months so only check every so often for replies.

Yes I still have the engine, if you're interested in purchasing it , please let me know?

Martin, Thanks for your response. Yes, I am interested but am located in Ireland and would prefer to find something closer to me.
My main interest is the cylinder head, to replace a cracked head. Message me with the asking price and I will explore the transport costs.

Thank you for your response.

I'll be looking for circa £400.
The diesel pumps worth circa £100, if part exchanged for a refurbished pump. That was the rate last year when I got a new pump.
The engine stand came with the reconditioned engine from the Engineering firm who reconditioned the MOD's Land Rover engines, say £ 80 -100, I've seen these on the web.
£ 200 for the rest of the engine.
I can't guarantee there's no crack or other issues with the head on my old engine, that would be your risk unfortunately!

Do you use the LR Workshop website? https://www.lrworkshop.com/parts/STC803

John Craddock are advertising a head for £ 545.78 (need to check the VAT).

I've just typed in the part number on the web and heads are going for £400 plus.

Let me know what you would like to do?

Regards

Martin. Many thanks for your detailed and informative balanced response. I understand there is a risk of possible cracks in your engine/head. From the video, it looks to me like the blow by is probably coming from a push rod opening, and that the cylinder head gasket is probably gone between a cylinder and an adjacent pushrod opening. Did your engine overhead at any stage. It could be a number of other things, including valves/piston rings etc. Difficult to say without removing the head. I will let you know in a few days what I decide.

There was no overheating issues, but I was only doing local trips of circa 15 miles at a time.
It was leaking oil from the rocker cover gasket, despite me changing the gasket, around the oil cap & the breather pipe to the oil breather filter / separator, the engine was getting covered in oil.

I purchased a reconditioned engine about 8 years ago, so changed it over last summer.

Martin, Many thanks for your replies/info. When I add up the engine cost, the transport cost and the cost of getting the head skimmed including the risk, a remanufactured/reconditioned head makes better economic sense. I hope to tackle as a winter project.
