Land Rover chassis complications

Hi, thought I would give an update, just for any people contemplating a chassis change and where to buy from. Received chassis number 3 from Shielderchassis this afternoon. I have yet to contact them, but initial viewing of chassis not good. The engine mounts are in the same position as first two chassis delivered, so engine will still foul with power steering pump. The rear end look better, but welding standard is poor, some support brackets are damaged and one of the rails has taken a bash and cut through the galvanising and down to bare metal.
If anybody out there has a 300tdi 110 chassis (metal fuel tank) that they could take a few dimensions on, that would be handy, mainly location of engine mounts.
Next move is to order a chassis from somewhere else and try and get my money back from the Shielderchassis ones.
Oh what joy.

@border has a 110 that he has just had galvanised, so should be to landrover spec. Maybe he can help with some of your measurements?

I’m so pleased that I ****ed Shielder Chassis off when they ****ed me around. To say they are supposed to be a structural steel welding company, having “bad welds” should be something they never have!

It’s been a while since I posted, but just thought I’d update for any people thinking of by from Shielderchassis. I am still awaiting a refund and am currently starting court action to recover costs. Ordered a new chassis from Richards, which will hopefully turn up in a few weeks.
Had a total of 3 chassis from Shielder and not one of them suitable. First one was the wrong chassis completely and second two had the engine mounts positioned 20mm out of position. I would’ve used the chassis and modified spacers, but requested a reduction in cost, but was politely told where to go.
Good luck to anybody buying.

Doesn't sound great  Good luck with the court claim. I hope you win.

Thanks for reporting back, and, as above, Good Luck with recovering your money. Shame it has to come to that

Don't sound like much of a firm to deal with  weird o_O

Hi sorry to hear about your dilemma regarding the chassis from sheilder, I have just had some problems with the one I purchased. Mine was for my D2 td5. Certain parts were too short so had to make spacers for and bolt holes not lining up.
Have been on to the third party which I purchased the chassis through and also sheilder as of yet not got and real answers, like yourself it costing money.

Hi Huey,
Sorry to hear about your issues. The second two chassis that Shielder sent had, amongst a few other issues, the engine mounts in the wrong position. Shielder did report b@ck and confirm that a batch of chassis had the mounts wrong, due to their welding jig being wrong. When I asked if they would recall the chassis, they said no, most garages would put them right. A little worrying if you buy a galvanised chassis, but are not aware that the garage have cut off, rewelded and corrected errors, thus affecting the protection the galvanising gives.
I am still awaiting a refund, so currently out of pocket for the original purchase, the replacement from Richard Chassis (quality and workmanship good, all holes, brackets, lined up), and the cost from the workshop to take off and refit. Response from Shielder regarding the extra work, was that it is not their problem, and not their fault that I have employed the services of a garage using monkeys as mechanics, who don’t know their elbows from Spanner’s!
Not bad customer service.
I wish you luck with your rebuild.
