Land Rover as first car?

Hi guys and girls,

I am 24 and thinking of getting a land rover as my first car, I have a few questions and thought I would ask them here as Google kinda let me down there!

I have ben told they are cheap and reliable to run, is this true?
My other question: Is it possible to get classic car insurance on a 1994 disco. I know it all depends on the age of the car so i'm thinking any land rover before 1995 would pass.

Please let me know what you all think as im completely confused as many people have totally different opinions! Haha

They can be cheap and reliable to run. Most likely it won't be the case and you are going to fix it up a fair bit. Sometimes they rumble on with no probs, then a tonne of stuff at once.

Back in the 1990s i found a series 3 petrol cheap to run.

My 1992 RR isn't too expensive to run as it's not a daily commuter car. It has classic insurance.

A 98 disco was(is) my first vehicle.

Its been alright, replaced u-joints, a cv joint, and wheel bearings. Mine has the V8 and the 12MPG is slightly annoying even here in the states.

I'm looking to replace it with something a little bigger that has a diesel and a pickup bed. Since I can not get a Defender 130 diesel here in the states, I guess my next vehicle isn't going to be a Land Rover. :<


There is a Defender 110 down the road from my house. I've been trying to figure out who owns it and if its NAS.

Hey,

Been looking at disco's. My welding is pretty good since I been doing it since I was 15 I now they do need a lot of welding and fixing but thats part of the fun i'm thinking heh.

Cheap to run? I don't think so. 30mpg for the diesel and £220 to tax a year.

I think a 94 disco will creep into a classic policy. Why don't you call an insurance company!?! Try Lancaster ot Adrian Flux.

At least you should be able to service a disco your self, but as someone else has said, I hope your welding is up top scratch
