I have recently bought a 1988 90 truck cab 2.5 petrol with 25,000 miles and in absolutely original condition. I have bought an estate top and sides and intend to fit it soon. The question is, at that date, should the rear door have 2 or hinges? I have to buy a new door and there seem to be both options available. The triangular plate that takes the anti Luce catch is nit drilled for a hinge.

My 1990 truck has 3 hinges, pretty sure a 1988 model would be the same. 2 hinge doors are for Series.
My '88 E reg station wagon has three hinges, and my '89 F reg hard top has three hinges.

You have to drill the holes for the centre hinge.
Or get hold of a corner capping plate from one that had a door or a blank and drill. I would try and do this personally as the hole for the anti-loose catch will probably not line up once removed and may get in the way of the hinge bolts holes. I did the opposite on my series when I went to a soft top and fitted a tail gate, and swapped the corner capping's out for the one with the anti-loose catch.

If you are not planning on having a spare wheel on the back door then 2 hinges will be fine. [ early 90 usually refers to 84/85 models.

Hi. As above you should have 3 hinges. What the lads have said is bang on. I can recommend paint man panels for your door when you come to buy. Replaced mine from them and I thought it was great workmanship and a good price. They sell it without the holes for the spare wheel carrier. Frame is very strong. Fitted to my 90 no issues. Hope you get sorted. You want pics of mine let me know I’ll stick em up tomorrow.

Hi Jim, door came in black primer. I rubbed it down and undercoated and bronze green from paint man. They sell a lot of parts for the landrover and all types of paint. I used coachwork enamel and used a brush and a roller. You wouldn’t know to look at it. I used the window from my old door which had crumbled away. I got a new door card from Britpart.Put a new lock on too. Perfect fit to the door. A few pics to look at.

Nineties and OneTens had a mini-revamp in ‘86 (along with other changes throughout the years). <‘86 would be considered an “early” model.
