Dear all,

Replacing downpipes/cats on P38a, from originals.
Were these sensors made of chocolate? N/Side, ok, threads may clean up with dia of god knows what size and O/Side threads looks like its been chewed on by Odd bod junior from carry on screaming!

They needed a considerable amount of the mother inlaws breath to remove them.

I tried shouting "the power of Christ compels you" approach without success.

Is there hope for refitment or will they need replacements?

Kind regards and thanks again,
Foultrousers.

the best way is to unplug them, then remove them attached to the downpipes then apply heat to assist the removal of the damn things

Heat them up slightly and see if they will move, but not enough force to snap them off. Then if that fails heat them red hot and quench them rapidly and try to see if they come out then, if you try to remove red hot, odds on the threads will come out aswel, cooling them quickly upsets the molacules and they should come out. If you snap them off knock or drill the centres out, cut into one side with a small blade and fold the threads in and then remove them.

If the stub sits high enough above the exhaust you can take two hammers and strike the stub at the same time with both hammers working around the stub.

Thats it mate, murphys law says one will fall out and the other wont.

Andy & David,

Many thanks for the advice.

They both went back in too, after attention from a thread file which saved me £200+.

Kind regards,
Foulrousers.

ps: I had to move her at one point for better access, and I tell you what, " there's nowt like the sound of a V8 on open headers". Gorgeous.
