A few things to consider.

Are you good with spanners?
If not how much disposable income do you have for the inevitable repairs?
Engine choice?
Tax bracket?
They are great when they a running but can be a money pit when they go wrong. I chose my TD6 based on ease of maintenance, and yes I know the gearbox is made of cheese but since it was rebuilt 40k miles ago and had an oil change at 30k it's been fine 🤞. I would love a Diesel V8 but if it went wrong fixing it would scare me sh1tless. That said I have had other issues, rust, faulty amp, faulty speakers, high pressure fuel pump, height sensors etc, all things you would expect from a complicated 20 year old car.

EDIT: Don't forget you'll need a second car to go for the new parts for the L322 :)

My own response last night was going to be a tad shorter but got a sense the OP may be offended.
It went something like: the 'best' is the one you like, can afford to buy and can afford to maintain ..

P.s I really fought this bit but........ when asking strangers for help a little manners go a long way.
