Cheers appreciate that comment. If I could bend your ears again my mate is having problems finding a spanner to remove the fan and he is stuck removing the cam covers are they in two parts. thanks.
 
There is a special thin spanner and holding tool and the nut is left handed. You can try and put pressure on the belt for him from below and then your man with a spanner on the nut and give it a whack from above.
i have made a holding tool and bought the spanner.
The camcovers may well be stuck in place, once all the nuts and bolts are out you can try sliding in a putty knife / thin scraper carefully around or protect the cam covers with a piece of wood and give a tap with a rubber mallet but they are quite brittle. As they start to loosen you will hear the tapping change tone.

No laughing please (!) but I use an old gate hinge with the screw hole at the end enlarged to fit over one of the bolt heads on the pulley on the engine side. Angle it to go into the recess, put the hole over one bolt head and hold the edge of the hinge against a second bolt. Then standard 32mm spanner to undo.

Whatever works for you ! As long as the thing comes off you can use one of Alan's underwire bras for all we care, (he might though as he is down to his last 50) there is no snobbery on this site:)

Great ideas thankyou all.Ive been away for the weekend for some rest and meditation and the occasional dram washed down with a few ales,anyway back to reality my mate managed to get the fan off so all going well so far apart from the download I got of ebay he reckons its not the same engine ive got.
 
What download do you mean, did you buy a manual ?
The Rave manual has all the information you need or have you downloaded that already from the technical archive ?
 
Great thankou for imformation,the car was registered 12/05 and my mate keeps asking if its a sports model but there are no decals only vogue on the car,is it the same engine as the sport ?.
