I have a 2002 L322 Range Rover which has issues.
Here's the thing I am struggling with the GAP IID tool. I am not sure if there is a way to reset the whole system. Also by using the GAP and an iCarsoft tool I wonder if I have confused the Range Rover computers into providing misleading readings.

The transmission has had it and the car it is off road as I need to fix the suspension before I get the gearbox professionally fitted (unless I do that myself).

• I replaced a dud (shorted) reservoir pressure sensor after testing all sensor and valve ohmage readings (from the suspension ECU plug and some direct). The GAP did not say pressure sensor was broken but I had an UNKNOWN fault reading.
• Replaced front height sensors following a GAP error reading for the LEFT front.
• Had a few readings of a bad steering angle sensor yesterday despite turning wheel right and left after battery connection (it may be on the way out) but not today and the ABS and triangle etc dash lights are all as normal besides suspension disabled.
• The suspension operating switches light up.
• There are no air leaks.
• All fuses and relays fine.
• The compressor works and has a new seal and piston.
• Replaced front crosslink valve
• Ohms readings from the wheel speed sensors look fine.
• Using a multimeter on the CAN wires at the ABS and suspension computer they are within normal range
• Put on a new battery fully charged. There is no parasitic leak (as removed 2 shorts).
• Repaired a fan in the dash which was catching
• Removed the radial (tilt) motor which works when removed but when in circuit jolts and jams (when hanging by wires not engaged in gears) as the ignition is turned on. It had a short or a blocked positive. The problem may be in the circuit board.
• No evidence of water damage. No sun roof. No evidence of ECU damage.
• Steering angle sensor has power from both fuses at the 6 pin socket, but the CAN said it had no power yesterday.

Today after resetting the fault on the steering angle sensor which was evident on Gap and iCarsoft, I still have a CAN BUS fault, and the front RIGHT height sensor is reading fault on the GAP IID tool. The sensor is brand new. I put the old one back. Same result. The ohmage on the wires is similar on the front left and right so the wires are OK. Yesterday the GAP was giving readings from all 4 corner heights. The readings were possibly wrong but it was sending signals to them and the valves without a problem. It also had no problem re-calibrating the steering.

There are other system faults:
• Steering lock works fine but gets an error reading.
• Pilot light blown (in post)
• Had a battery feed fault K130 to transmission but I may have cleared that. I need to check that.
• Driver's door mirror motors work fine but get an error reading for horizontal - (Perhaps it means the passenger one I forgot to check)
• Error from the leveling lights but the LCM which would break the CAN does not exist on the car - or at least it is not at the bottom of the right A pillar as shown in manual.
• ABS fault which I think is relating to a BMW component which is not on the L322 - ABS EBV fault.

After replacing the pressure sensor, I had hoped that the steering sensor was the cause, but now the GAP has decided to blame a brand new front right height sensor (and the old one when switched) so I am puzzled. Every day I fix something and the GAP sometimes shifts the blame for the fault. Wonder if the ECU has had it. I am gradually making progress I suppose, but do you have any thoughts?

Long list of problems - so thanks for reading.

Also if you know anyone who wants a skimmed and blown 300TDI cylinder head with valves still in for free let me know (Medway Kent).

Hi

not familiar with the L322 but am with the gap iid , looking through ur list can see a few things that stand out that may be causing ur issues

best to make a record of all the fault codes that the gap iid is showing , clear them and see what comes back , if u then post the error codes up with give a far better idea what’s going on

plus not wishing to try and teach u how to suck eggs but best to ensure 100% a part is faulty before replacing , otherwise if certain items require calibrating and not done correctly u can end up chasing even more errors , or even worse ending up with a large brick on ur driveway

hope that helps

THANKS for the info.
I got the vehicle for about 2.5 grand just over 2 years ago. I wanted an old Defender (for a bit more money) but we did not have time to bit for it. The L322 broke on the 1st journey. 200 miles to Dorset and the gearbox went. Another 600 miles and the suspension went. But I am fairly good at fixing things so I am not stressed about it. The bodywork and interior is good for age and the mileage is only just over 100,000. It still has some life in it. Just need to put on a new box and get my head round the electronics.

LCM is behind the kick panel in the foot well at the bottom of the right hand a pillar, if you remove the panel and look up you should see the bottom of it.
Not all have self leveling headlights as the car self levels anyway..........when the suspensions working that is :)

Not used the Gap (I have a Foxwell) but the suspension won't do anything if it shows a fault. You may need to clear the fault codes and recalibrate the suspension so that all sensors are within tolerence.

sounds a brilliant project , know when I got my D3 all the suspension needed doing , worse was all the bodges that people had done, took me months on end to resolve them as needed to go into the main looms and modules

here’s my current one where I’ve got a real pain error , been trying to pin it down, managed to do a little bit more today

hope u get it resolved and sounds a bargain if u can do the work urself , may i ask any pics of ur exterior / interior Range Rover please , indeed know it can take ages going through it step by step

following thread with interest and all the best to u mate
