L322 2003 TD6

Sorry if this has been covered…..I’ll keep it short and sweet!

Autel 808 diagnostic and iCar tool both saying ‘Reservoir Valve Suppy Fault’. Can anyone help as it’s locking out the air suspension with no dash lights and message on display. Worked perfect up until bad battery, replaced battery and ever since I’ve had this. I can raise lower using the diagnostic tool…..it just will not stay working…….fault repeatedly comes back. Thanks in anticipation.
 
Is the reservoir valve the one in the compressor housing under the spare wheel? I've seen threads where the wring gets damaged by the spare wheel but it's in a sleeve so it's not obvious. It would be good if we had the code with the text (C-xxx) to narrow the field a bit but Autel may not give that.
 
Hi Blob, thanks for your post! I’ve found the reservoir valve, it’s located just in front of the reservoir tank underneath the car on the drivers side. I can hear it clicking (working?) when I use the Autel to raise and lower the suspension….all works fine. Starting to think it be a compressor issue as can’t get the pressure above about 7.5-8.0 bar! Noted on the fault code, might have to invest in a Gap for the long term.
 
That does sound like the compressor could be the culprit then if it's only providing 2/3 of what it needs. Does it run for a long time? I've not had this fault (yet) but I'm sure I've seen details on them overheating when they work so hard to get the pressure up.

There's a rebuild kit (BagPipeAndy's???) I think that you can buy on eBay to do it. Not too much money and it's pretty easy to do on the bench I think. If you're on the original compressor in a 2003 car it's doing very well indeed and would almost certainly benefit from a refresh.

My (new to me) 2011 L322 compressor runs a lot longer than my 2009 one, I actually notice it sometimes when it's really quiet. The new one has under 90k miles and the old one has 169k on it. I dare say the older one has had a rebuild so this is on my jobs list for the new one too.
 
It will shut down when it overheats then start again once it's cooled down. My Foxwell shows the compressor temp and used to overheat regularly when I was chasing a fault on the F/N/S.
 
If it overheats I get a warning on the dash.

Rebuild kit from x8r sorted it.

Maybe the 2003 doesn’t warn on dash, but it does sound like a weak compressor
If you can read the proper code (as stated above) it will help narrow the field down better.

Hi Guys, many thanks for all of the replies and advice……I’ve finally gotten around to replacing the air suspension compressor and (thankfully) the system is working as it should……with one exception (you knew that was coming) 👀😱😂😂. I cleared all of the faults, recalibrated the system and now all seems okay. However if I park the car up and leave it for say an hour, when I comeback all the suspension dash lights are out and it (keeps) logging an EAS ECU Memory Fault. If I clear it alls well…until the next time. Yep….new battery already fitted in the Summer, new height sensors to boot. There are no other fault codes in any of the other systems (BCM, ABS etc) just this one fault! . I feel like I’m almost there but does anyone know what is causing the memory fault? If I can crack this I’m home and dry….until the next time! Again, thanks in anticipation for any advice given.

On the face of it, it sounds like the ECU is faulty. However, in the first instance I would check the battery voltage after it has stood overnight. Also I would be looking for corroded connectors at the ECU and checking that the required voltages are present.

Hi Datatek and thanks for your advice……yes, I’m of the same thoughts myself about the ECU. I’ll check the battery voltage as you suggested and see what it is in the morning. Just to elaborate, mines a 2003 TD6…so basically an X5! I’ve actually bought an ECU for it (the white one) but I’ve heard that these need to be coded to the car if you swap them out. My Autel has that facility (I think) but wondered if you could confirm or not whether this is the case. Thanks again!
