L322 Heated Steering Wheel Problem

Hi

I have a range rover vogue 2003 with the heated steering wheel option but when i press the button to switch it on the red light flashes once then goes off, if i press it again it does the same thing. It never seams to say on and does not heat the wheel. Anybody any ideas what this could be?

Wonder if you can get a heated tailgate push button. It does chill my thumb somewhat if i forget to wear my Gucci gloves.

Thanks for the useful comments. But its a problem i want to fix, this is my first range rover and i want to be able to use all of its features.

Sorry Matt, it's hard to resist making a comment. Don't know anything about the L322. Have never come across a heated steering wheel.

The button when pressed should stay on (red) when the heated wheel is on. Sounds lke there's a relay/ control box for it somewhere thats at fault.

Unfortunately, theres usually only one person who'll help with these sorts of faults
Thats the main dealer.
There seems to be reluctance by lots (Not All) of auto electricians to delve into wiring looms and such, as they are so much more complicated nowadays.

Hope this helps to confirm that you have a problem, if it doesnt help to solve it!!

It sounds like broken element in the wheel.

Get a new 2010 style one.

My light stays on but the wheel only gets hot at the lower point. I have given up trying to fix so pony the heaters at my hands instead. I think a new steering wheel is really the only option

Old post, old problem. I have been looking around and there seems to be three main culprits:
1. Steering wheel itself
2. Fuse
3. The steering wheel ECU.

I am asking as I am having this problem now myself. And no, like Matt, I want items to work, so no gloves comments.

What I am not clear is how to check if it is ECU or the wheel. Any pointers, please?

I can't give you any pointers but I can add to your list the rotary coupler which may have failed.

Which issue do you have, the light going off, or the light staying on but only parts of the wheel getting hot?

Pressing the heating button, it switches on for a split second and then switches off.

I saw this one, but I do not have a heat gun etc. Wondered if one can check the ECU itself without going through testing the wheel itself. If not, then I will use old hair drier on the wheel

You don't need a heat gun, just test the resistance as per the video. As the led is lighting up briefly I suspect the heating element has gone.
Unless you're gonna use the hair dryer to warm the wheel up before you start driving
