Hi, Decided to pop down to North Devon with a few mates to go to a Beer festival over the weekend. Rangy flew down the motorway no problem then going over the bridge in Barnstaple Trans Fail Safe prog displayed on panel and it was horrible to drive, over revving and feeling as though the 'clutch' was slipping. Managed to get to a layby and turned off the car, when restarted however error message gone but no drive at all, forward or reverse. AA were fantastic and got to us in 15 mins, couldn't do anything with the car so relayed it back to Birmingham and sorted us out a hire car.
My question is can these units be repaired and can anyone recommend an auto specialist in Birmingham. Any advice on the best way to proceed would be gratefully received. Car has done 89k and is a 2003 HSE.
Many Thanks Ian

You don't say whether your L322 is petrol or diesel but I'll assume it's a TD6 because the transmission has failed at 80k-100k miles, which is normal for the GM 5L40-E transmission.

You need to drain some of the transmission fluid out and see if it's full of 'glitter' - in which case your torque converter lock-up clutch has gone through its lining and dumped huge quantities of metallic debris into the fluid.

Hi Bemble, I've been looking at your previous posts and you certainly seem to be the gearbox expert here, many thanks for your reply. We have had a few minor problems with the box over the last year but most of those disappeared when I had the oil and filter changed last Christmas.
The only fault on the box remaining was you had no drive first thing in the morning, reverse was instant but drive would take 4 or 5 seconds to slurr in and then would be fine all day. When the oil was changed the garage said the oil was a little dirty and they thought the bands were past their best. Will try and get some oil out tomorrow and check for debris, I take it if the clutch has gone the box is junk.
Thanks again Ian
