L322 gearbox issue

Hi i have an l322 RR 2005 2.9td6 5speed auto 141k
Last week I got the trans failsafe mode on the dash and the car went into limp mode over revving slightly I got it towed home and it's been parked up since when it's been sitting it will engage into drive and move until the oil seems to get warm then stops
It still selects every gear 1 -5 even hi /low range
Would it be worth just changing the oil and filter
It never gave any indication of juddering / slipping previously drove fine
Any help would be much appreciated

Have you checked the oil level? Certainly worth doing an oil and filter change and checking the cooler. someone with more knowledge will no doubt be along shortly.

Has the gearbox had any work done to it, the box on the td6 is well known to give up at 80k + the valve block wears and then leaks fluid passed the solinoids which drops pressure on clutch packs which then wears themail the debris then wears the valve block and repeat
if the box has not been rebuilt imake sure you get the sonex rebuilt valve block

It hasn't had any work done
Its confusing as when it's been sitting it will engage in drive
I'm going to drop the oil soon to have alook

Just an update I drained the oil and replaced both oil and filter the car seems to be functioning as it was driving very well
