L322 Air Suspension Inactive

Hello,
My 02 mk3 range rover has a fault that is affecting the dashboard message centre.

The centre console screen for the cd player isn't working (it doesn't have satnav) and the main message centre has pixels missing and is displaying the 'air suspension disabled' message.

The car is riding at a fixed height (you can't adjust it up or down) rather than on the bumpstops so I'm assuming this is a computer fault rather than a mechanical one.

Has anyone experienced something like this?

And could anyone offer any advice as to what could be wrong and what the damage to fix it might be?

Thanks!!

Hi James, have had exactly the same prob. There can be a number of faults to blame. Firstly, get yourself to an indie or stealer and have a computer hook up diagnosis to identify the fault code. This will tell you exactly what the prob is and if minor can be reset - mine had the wrong outside environment temp settings (c. £60)

otherwise could be:
1. pressure relief valve inside compressor (needs to be taken out and blown through/cleaned)
2. compressor worn out and not getting up to pressure. New compressor £300 + £180 fitting
4. check for water in spare wheel well which can get into compressor and short it out

THe good news is..you are ok to drive as it is at normal height and it will maintain that until it is fixed.
THe pixels is a LR thing and you can live with it or pay £100 for a guy to clean the contacts which decay the glue at the back after a while. THe CD not working may need some more investigation. Check all the wiring in the doors etc. is connected.

hi had my range rover vogue 03 for a couple of months air susspension saying inactive took it to dealers it wanted recalibrating cost £58

Hi,
After having my 2003 L322 Diesel HSE over a year now I have experienced several irratating faults with the EAS system which would occasionally throw up a fault without warning. Each time a trip to the dealer to have the EAS reset would leave me £100 out of pocket. The 1st fault identified a suspect compressor, a new ebay item at £250 and 10mins to fit sorted it for a few months but after parking it on an uneven car park sent it into fault mode again. This time a pressure relief valve MAV 51000 was reported to be at fault at a cost of £200 + to supply and fit. Coincidently I was working at the house of a senior Land Rover engineer at the time as whilst admiring his new 2010 RR Sport was bemoaning my vehicle's lack of reliability. A couple of phone calls later he tracked down the one of the engineers responsible for the development of the EAS system on the L322 and it appears the part which had failed is not required by the system to work. The pressure release valve was fitted in the system during the build, to protect the system in the event the suspension was incorrectly piped, and attached to the wiring harness is an ordinary push fit plasic elbow to replace the valve should it fail.
So with the money I saved I have bought an EAS kicker which was only available for the P38, however RSW solutions have introduced one which will reset the EAS and store the fault codes for L322.

I have attached their website address, it has a great description of the many faults which can affect the system and well worth a read.

Hopefully the reset tool will be with me next week and i'll let you know how I get on.

James, if it is only one corner that is dropping this would suggest a leaking air bag. Do a soapy wash test to find any holes. a bubble should appear where the leak is. Bag May need replacing (not sure of cost,....c. £100??)

I've heard that door switches will also cause the suspension inactive message if they do not work properly as the suspension is inactive with any door or the boot open. No personal knowledge of this, only what I've read.

From my limited understanding, the door switches temporarily arrest the ability to change the suspension height but I don't think they will trigger the 'AIR SUSP INACTIVE' message on the dash.

I could be wrong though, maybe a fault in one might do it?

myn has been sayin that for 2 months now dont no y but its still level even if you load it up it leves up i thnk it must be the button which locks the air suspention

there was a early ecu upgrade and a replacement pressure switch for the tank if these have been done then it will be the pump but nobody does a overhaul kit for them yet ebay is the best bet

I got the EAS Activate plug and was able to reset the AIR SUSP. INACTIVE status of my L322. It is now 200 kms since it happened last time.

The fault code read out by the plug is:
"Reservoir Pressure static on filling".

What would you suggest I look at ?

A new compressor.

Hi guys had this problem last winter took my 2004 vogue to the lr dealer in scotland £££££ tech guy said some valve in the compressor area needed drilled oot 130£ ,problem solved ,this year similar tempetures as last year -15/-20 here in scotland same **** any ideas:d not a happy bunny is it poss to reset the the system by disconnecting the battery ??? Help ma heeds starting to throb with this carry on

I'm a P38 man myself but I spend my life dealing with consumer electronics. Have you tried a battery disconnect? Costs nothing.

the person that made these cars whats shooting anybody want to buy mine.i have only had it 2 weeks.its a mint l322 4.4 on a 04 plate with lpg just fitted so as 2 year warranty
just can't do with all this assill first to see will buy

the ecu will remember the fault even if the battery has gone flat so not worth the hassel and doing that on a l322 will invoke more faults!
just get the ecu tested
