L series engines

Hi folks. New to the forum so hear goes. Bought a freelander XEDI 1998 last week. One owner full service history. Had an oil pump change last month. I did 48 miles bad knocking similar to big ends. Checked oil. So transparent you cannot see on the dip stick. Main dealer thinks this is suspicious. anyway before I decide what to do can someone tell me if L series engines on the 200/400 are compatable and can be easily fitted? This is fast becoming the cheapest option.
