Kingpin Tyres

I had kingpin remoulds on something, a niva maybe? Wasnt impressed, after a few months they started to crack where the blocks joint to the body of the tyre. That was a good few years ago though so build quality may have moved on.

2 years ago i bought a set of 33 king pin amazon ATS for my frontera

they were ****e - 8 months in - cracked to **** round the tread-tyre interface - not only that 2 of the exploded when my mrs mounted an average kerb at 20mph avoiding a **** pulling out - never happened on the odd occasion ive done the same with the bfgs i had on before ..... put bfgs on my landy when i rebuilt it ....

I used to live opposite a tyre/exhaust place and was chummy with their fitters.
"Killer kingpins" is what they called them.
That was years ago though.

I'll never buy remoulds again it's false economy. BFG are the benchmark for longevity but I suppose if you just want some extreme tread and don't care if they wear out in six months any of the cheapo jobs will do.

oh and the lack of grip they provided in the cold was hillarious.... compound was similar to mahogany.

in a RWD vehicle it was AWESOME fun - but still not somethign that is right. the bfgs are much softer.

My brother has a set of these. They are a true 7.50 tyre, which is nice in this day and age. And well priced too. They are moderately tall for a 7.50, not the tallest, but not the shortest either.

The diamond pattern is very good off road and will excel on some terrain. The likes of BFG make nothing even close to the same ability off road.

If you use them on the road a lot, you'll simply wear the edge off the lugs and reduce their off road potential. But that is true of any aggressive MT.. That said they are perfectly fine compared to other MT's of similar nature for road use. Remember what they are when it's wet and don't expect the quietest ride. But again no worse than most other aggressive MT's.

As they are a proper 7.50, they'll fit better on a 6.5j rim. They will go on a 7j, but it'll stretch them out a little.

I don't know if anyone is interested but I just bought 5 of these tyres for £350 delivered. I text an eBay shop called busybeecroft2014 on their mobile +44 7713 816919
They have loads of tyres available worth a look see.

I wouldn't diss all remoulds myself. Had good usage out of them, the better ones are fine. I have Insas and Fedimas in use at the moment, and getting good service out of them.

Same as anything else, there is good and bad. Havent heard the very best about Kingpin though, cheap and cheerful end of the remould market, I suspect.
