No diagnostics needed to resync a P38 FOB nor does it need to be "switched back on".

The fob stays programmed, which means if somebody finds it, with any ID (like in a handbag) then said party could do the honest thing and return.
Or the car could get nicked;):(

I understand what you are saying. Don’t think OP has kit to do that. Buy a Nanocom £400 + new cut keys. Or £200 for a fully working fob hassle free;)
The car could still throw a wobbly and with EKA switched off it could mean more expense, could it not?
I agree anybody that owns a P38 should have decent diagnostics kit, but not all do.

Curious

I run 2 cars with EKA and the immobiliser turned off, primarily because I have only one FOB for the project car.
As far as I can determine, with the 2 features turned off there is no requirement for an external input to cause the BECM to send the unlock code to the EDC nor is there any possibility that the EKA code will be needed as it's disabled. Certainly neither car has thrown a wobbly.

Ah just the blade. So it won’t lose sync?
Using just the key blade, it can only lose sync between the BECM and the EDC if the BECM gets spooked by a low battery, exactly the same as if a FOB is in use. The danger of using just the blade is the weakness of the lock mechanism. I'm looking at other alternatives to the P38 FOB when I have spare time.

Ok.

Is petrol same?
What would happen if somebody actually tried to break into the car?

Okay for emergency but if loses sync OP is stuffed.
Like your thinking though, I rely on a key for unlocking for now. Hopefully one day I can warrant budgeting a MartyUK filter.
If the car loses sync between the BECM & the EDC the OP is stuffed even with a FOB as anyone else would be.
Loss of sync between the FOB and the BECM is possible but but it's easy to resync using the door lock method with the key.

So here we go round in circles then:)

Most don’t know if they have a good key mechanism working till they try:)
Most don’t know if the EKA will go in, until they try and then find out it won’t ;)

Joys of RR:)

The OP needs to buy a second key in my opinion.

J

+1. OE in this case, and I’m usually in favour of shortcuts as mine is a daily.

When you only have one key, and one RR, it’s worth the £££ for the peace of mind with these IMO.
New batteries too - they are pennies, you only need one ‘engine immobilised’ and you will climb mountains for them.

Hi Guys, picking brains time again, just discovered that the wife has lost my spare key to the RR, so I know that I ca get a replacement from Looker or similar dealer, but my question is does any body know if I can buy an door lock plus ignition barrel with 2 keys, had a look on Flee bay but all had just 1 key. As I have been quoted around £250 for a replacement key OUCH.

Have you tried Stratstone in Aylesbury? It is a few years ago now but they charged me £160 all in.

GEMS is more integrated with BECM. Diesel and Thor were cut and shut jobs to some extent and presume your Overfinch is too.

The OF has an Omex ecu (I believe) but have yet to find it;) must have a look 1 day and see what/how they have done it. It must be hidden behind the dash somewhere as it’s not in the box by the battery.

If the EKA & immobiliser are turned off, you will not ever need the EKA and if you are using the key blade you kind of know the the key mechanism is working. Loss of FOB sync is simply the rolling code getting out of step, nothing to do with other types of loss of sync.
If the OP has the cash to spare, a second FOB is the way forward, I don't have the cash to spare, especially as these vehicles are likely to be forced off the road here in France in the not too distant future.:(

What! How very undemocratic of them. There needs to be a revolution...... oh, wait. ;)
I assume this removal of "less environmentally friendly" vehicles will see all French tractors removed too?

Yes ALL older vehicles. The government seem to think it's more environmentally friendly to destroy old cars that cover few miles a year and replace them with new ones that the manufacture of which causes considerable pollution.
There will be riots if the politicians try to go ahead.

Idiots. Use it until it cannot be repaired. All this scrapping **** is just another wheeze to prop the car industry up and try to fuel growth to maintain the status quo.
