Keys

Hi all,

Is it possible to change all the locks so that they use the same key.
We have one for drivers door and ignition (passenger one doesn't currently work) and one for the rear door and one for the deisel filler cap.

Even if I could get side doors, ignition and rear door on the same key that would be great.

If you want a matching lock set, you might have to go to the main dealers.

EBay, can get as many barrels as you need with same key.
I've even fitted same barrel to my garage so I only need one key.

Sp landrovers do barrel and key sets with authentic keys

Mine has three keys- one for the ignition, one for all three doors and one for the fuel filler. It appears to be standard for the year as the owners manual shows a much smaller key for the doors. I'd just get a set of replacement barrels for the doors- at least then the one key will do all of them.

My 92 defender had 2 originally one for all the doors and the fuel filler and one for the ignition.

However it now has 4, one for the fuel filler, one for the front doors one for the rear and one for the ignition.

Basically because I had a new rear door complete and for both the fuel cap and rear door I couldn't work out how to get the barrels out!

I've now fitted remote central locking to the front doors so only need the keys for the rear door and fuel filler.

Based on this thread, I just ordered a set from SP-4x4 including ignition barrel. I currently have one key for ignition, one for rear, I can use my thumb for the drivers lock and passenger is broken and can only be opened from inside. I have the door cards off at moment for fitting central locking and a tidy up so good timing

Are the keys unique from these people?!? Or is it tractor one key fits all style?!?

sp keys are not lucas tractor keys.

certainly none of my existing LR keys open the SP locks.

The Sp keys look like the original ninety keys as well which was a bonus.

Now that's an idea a lockable series / defender side enterance door for a garage / shed

or even a rear door complete with spare wheel fitted

£35+VAT for 3 locks, matching ignition barrel and 2 keys. But, they do quite a bit of other stuff so the final bill was a bit more

They do a 4 barrel set too.

I noticed my up and over door on me garage had same type of barrel as me truck, and was fed up of trying to open the garage with the wrong key I fitted new barrels to my new truck doors and one on the garage

I have only just got around to fitting the new barrels.

Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but can't see what (it's only 1 screw...surely I didn't get that wrong?). I can open this new lock with my old key....and my house yale...and any other that fits at least a few mm in there.

Here is the new barrel fitted with the extension bit (taken from old lock). I am putting it in with the protruding pins oriented at the top of the handle.

Any advice, or is that pretty much how it's going to be?

How is the mechanism supposed to work?
