Key stuck in igniton (related to Brake switch?)

Hi,

A few days ago I was in town and I suddenly couldnt get the truck out of park.

To get me going I pulled the switch that sits above the brake pedal out, and that got me going, and I was able to drive around happily for a day yesterday stopping and starting frequently.

However I got home last night and couldnt pull the key out the lock. Tried WD40 and lots of wiggling of key, steering wheel, but it feels utterly jammed (it goes right round until about 5 minutes before the off position)

I cant help thinking the 2 are related, however the key I used only works one way round so is cause for concern too. I could just be an unlucky fecker.

I have searched the threads and there is a lot of talk about a solenoid switch. Ideally id like to turn this "useful" park function off (if thats whats causing my issue).

Anyone got similar experiences that can help

How can I find this solenoid in the steering column?

japanese spec vehicles have interlocking you can't move the auto box select or out off P unless the footbrake is pressed also you can't remove the ignition key unless the selector is in P, and much the same if the transfer box is in neutral.
But now u say the ignition switch itself turns "it goes right round until about 5 minutes before the off position" you have a problem there which u need to look at.

The key interlocking is part of the switch, my company car is a Honda and is auto so has the same thing with interlocking.

Yes it is Jap spec.

The system thinks the brake is on as the switch has been pulled down so is always "out" rather than in.
The door beeps when I open it as well so it clearly thinks its not in park, or would it do that if the key wasnt turned to off ?

You will get beeps if the key is still in the ignition swith and the door is opened, they all do that. have you checked the switch, do the brake lights illuminate, you may have a faulty switch or even just adjusting on the bracket.

All sorted, disconnected solenoid under the ignition barrel. Was bloody hot to touch too so glad I did.
Key slipped out a treat.

Not quite sure of the benefit of such an "feature" anyway

It's in case you are stupid enough to leave the car in neutral with the handbrake off. Now I could understand if this was on US cars................

That's the simplest and best option, remove it.........that's why I didn't think of that one
