Morning all,
Have had a good search of the forums but couldn't find the answer.

My keyfobs randomly loose synch and I get the "engine immobilised" message. The car will start after pressing the remote buttons. There is no pattern to it. Drove to work this morning called into Tescos on the way (as I usually do) and the car will not lock on the remote.
Do my shopping jump in get the immobilised message press the remote a few times and it starts. Off to work and when get there locks as normal.

This has happened a few times over the last couple of months with no pattern.

I've swapped RF receivers (I have a spare -not the type 3) and unplugged the aerial to improve selectivity and it still randomly happens with both keyfobs.

Have had the car for 7 years and this ongoing issue is the only real problem-so may have been lucky.

Would the BeCM Sync-Mate get me out of a sticky situation here?

Will only be keeping the car until summer and will be on the lookout for a L322 Supercharged (must be mad!).

Any help appreciated and if it points to the later RF - where can I buy one from as I cannot seem to find any.

Regards

Steve

I suspect It's the early RF receivers responding to WiFi and other signals, a MK3 receiver will cure it. Tesco's and petrol stations are common places to have the problem.

I had this with one fob but straingly not the other
So I figured it was the fob I got new battery and battery cover plus cleaned the contact in the back of the fob and it hasn't done it since

Thanks both.
Will do a bit more fiddling this weekend and report back.
I think it's still related to the interior light issue I had last year. Boot would not unlock or remotes lock the car until interior lights turned off-I simply disabled them and it was fine until a few weeks ago.
I'll have another look at the wiring but could be a BeCM problem.
Anyway I've had seven years of relatively inexpensive motoring! (must have bought a good one).
Hope the next one will be as (relatively) reliable.

Thanks

Steve

is it a big tescos ?

funnily enough, this happens to me when i go to a big tescos in port solent near portsmouth , theres a garage etc there, i have no idea what or why, but theres something there that interferes with the RF on the fob and knocks it out, it wont remote lock when i pull up, and i need to do the code to start it again after going in

but it only happens there, and has done 3 or 4 times ive been there

although i have no idea if its tesco related or another business or something near by

Thanks Mozz,
You helped me last year. I live near Caerphilly.
The Tesco is quite a large one-but again the occurence is quite random-it has done it once at Tescos and twice where I work (a school). It also did it the other week at home in the garage-although it might have been the fact that I had it unlocked for a week with my battery conditioner connected.
It starts when I press the remote with the key engaged. It never fails to open by remote but when it refuses to lock with the remote I know there will be trouble.

Next time it happens I'll lock it using the key and see what happens.

I'm still sure there must be problems with the BeCM.

Cheers

hi steve , yes I remember , unfortunately the answers still the same my friend you need the mk3 r.f. receiver , theres nothing wrong with your fobs , locks or becm ,,the part no is ywy500170 if you had bought one when I told you it would have cost approx. 100-150 now
you will be lucky if you can get one for less than £250-300 that is if you CAN find one ,sorry but I did warn you !!!!!!!! TESCOS ARE THE WORST CULPRIT ,IF YOUR DRIVING A P38 STAY OFF THEIR CARPARKS !!!!! UNLESS YOU ARE CONFIDENT YOU HAVE THE MK3 FITTED ,,, very easy to check out if its got the blue sticker on hard luck
