This is my old car which is now owned by a mate. He cannot start the car.

Central locking has packed up.

When key turned in ignition, ABS lights and whirring, everything seems to be running fine. ?But won't fire, turn over, no clicks or anything.

The suspicion is that it is a fault with the standard alarm and immobiliser.

Alarm wnet off while driving about a week ago and the car was unlocked today with the key, as the blipper wasn't doing anything.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an alarm issue to me. First thing would be to change the battery in the alarm fob (or try the spare) to see if that works? If the starter isn't even firing it sounds like the immobiliser, so got to be linked I reckon...

Is it a cheap aftermarket job?Had issues with the one fitted to my white classic the other christmas. Immobiliser packed up. Would turned over but not fire.
Removed the alarm system and ran a treat

Key fob battery is new. Alarm is factory. The central locking is not working even when the key is used, or even by using the drivers side / passenger side lock from the inside... Electric windows are working fine.

I'd like to know:
- Could it be a low battery? Electrics seem fine, but it has been sitting for 10 days
- Is there any way to reset the factory immobiliser, either with the key or the fob?
- Are there any cables / connections that commonly fail?

Thanks!

Bit of a long shot - Same thing happened to me in mine (oddly enough its also a 3.9 1993) and I traced it to the ignition switch! What happened to mine was the part that clamps the electric wires to the ignition barel had come loose which meant that when I turned the key to start, the ball bearing inside and the spring pressue pushed the electric bit out of place and hey presto no start.
