Just wanted to say Hi as a new owner

Hi all,

last night I came into ownership of my first Range Rover after straight swapping one for my Mercedes Cl55 AMG, I've always fancied a L322 and the timing was just right.

Im loving the colour as It an uncommon one, the only thing It hasn't got I would have liked is the TV and also I'm not keen on the black wheels so they will be going back to silver other than that it's spot on.

The only issue I had to address which I did today at work (I'm a mechanic) was to fit a complete new O/S/F shock and airbag due to a bad leak.

I was chuffed with the deal I did with my old AMG here's the CL55 I straight swapped:

Very nice - liking the colour and think the black wheels look fine with the tinted glass

Neat plate too but it's a good job that U ain't a O!

Yes that wouldn't have been good if it was an O,

Something else I'm rectifying tomorrow if they turn up is the front and rear Range Rover badges as it looks to bare without them.

Thanks for the heads up but it came with a invoice for just over 2k for a gearbox rebuild from middle of last year.

There is an element within the Range Rover owning community who do not appreciate alterations, especially visual ones, from factory standard. To an extent I have sympathies with them and think that your car looks a lot better without the gangsta black wheels. That probably explains the response.

A year or so back we had a little bit of fun posting up photographs of some of the worst of these that we could find; P38s with L322 front ends nailed on, massive flared arches, you get the idea. In homage to Overfinch these cars were referred to as 'Underpigeon'. It's passed into the language as a useful short cut on here.

That said the wheels are going back to silver hopefully this weekend as long as I can get to use the into spray booth at work if it's free.

Out of interest what is it that goes wrong with these gearboxes are they like the X5 boxes where the seals just get old and split or do they suffer a component malfunction?

Just remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Colour looks good, but the wheels wouldn't have been my choice.

The valve blocks in the GM box are made of cheese. Regular oil and filter changes may help it last beyond 60/80K miles.

Same as the X5 boxes then really, Ive repaired a few of them now and without removing the box just removing the valve chest.

the box is at it's torque limit in the L322 shifting 2.6 tonnes, the X5 is lighter so the box lasts longer.

I see,

I was informed by the last owner my L322 has been remapped is it best I get it removed and put back to standard as I'm not fussed if its slower to be fair it's not a racing car?

That's your choice, I put my P38 back to standard to take the torque back down below the HP22 limit. If you don't tow and have a light foot it should be OK. Personally I think the L322 is quick enough as standard and I wouldn't personally entertain a re-map on the Td6.

Then that's what I'll do, I'll get it put back to standard.

Nice colour, i had the same colour company car for a short while.
+1 on the wheels going back to silver though.
