Just how fast is a 200TDI?

Excellent post! I have been thing for a long time that I'm gonna remove my V8 and fit a 200 Tdi. I've not much experience of what the 200 feels like to drive having only driven a 300 and a TD5. I think I'm gonna have to drive one before I make what could be a very big mistake.

well my 1985 90 has a disco engine 200tdi in it, has standard 1.4 t box and stander gear box, straight throw exhaust with a back box on, 285,75,16 special track, lifted 2", x2 winches and it goes like ****, sits nice at 75 on the motorway.
had it doin 88 by the sat nav, but it did not feel safe

Bit confused about transferbox ratios now.. In a 1:4 ratio is the gearbox output shaft the '1'? So for 1 revolution of the gearbox output shaft you get 4 at the wheels? Or the otherway round?

Mine must be a rocket then as it cruises on the motorway at a very impressive 65mph!!......but I have to be honest 60 is more comfortable. 75mph feels like the space shuttle re entering earths atmosphere so I don't go there very often.

i got 200tdi 19j hybrid and i ad 84 going along motorway an she woulda gone a bit more i rkn but didnt wanna risk it lol and value my license haha :D

I had my old 200 Disco round to 110 on the Toll Road but dont think it was doin much more than 95 / 100
lots of black smoke I'm told as our Sie was following in his lotus.

Was a bit more to go according to the rev counter though.:)

Saxmanuk - yours sounds pretty much where it should be! Oh, and by the way, I don't take mine over 65mph - he's happiest knocking about A roads at 50/55

Enjoy - guarantee you'll be SO impressed.

At the risk of stating the obvious (but better now than wishing I had later) - breaking is no different to a 'normal' car in the snow - I found changing down through the gears far preferable to using the brakes!

The heavy snow just gone, I only used difflock once - was really impressed with what the Landy would cope with in normal transmission

Unfortunatly missed the snow but had a run in it today with the wife and kids...went to my mothers for afternoon snack. What is it about Landy defenders:confused::confused::confused:....My Mum, Dad, brother, sis in law came out to have a butchers at the Landy...never did with previous cars, Porche, M5 etc, but all wanted a go!
Evening has finished on a an annoying note however, let the missus have a go driving, she turned the key to hard and has broken the key in the ignition!..............Anyone know where I can get a new ignition barrel and key cheap???

What a pain

Not sure if you have a spare key to use if you can get the broken bit out, but assuming not enough key is left sticking out to grab with pliers, you 'may' be able to superglue the bit of key left in your wife's fingers:) onto what's left in the ignition barel and pull it out.

If not the usual suspects sell the barrels - Rimmerbros are usually quick to deliver - these links might help:

There's always ebay, but personally I'd avoid - no idea who has a second key for the barrel, and once they've posted the barrel they know where you live:(

Top tip MHM - I'll store that one for future use:)

Had a key snap myself a couple of weeks back, but just managed to get a fine nosed pair of pliers onto the end - that felt like a close call!
