Hi guys

I just picked up a p38 4.6 hse for stupidly cheap money for a complete car that drives as it should

Problem is aparently it has developed a problem in cylinder 6 previous owner recons he had it apart and there was scoring on the bore but i personally thought these engine have bore liners so it would be scoring on the liner rather than the bore so basically what i need to know is where can i find a liner and i know i can get a piston and rings for cheap new from cradocks or paddocks

So can anyone help me with this if i cant get i new single liner i would look as doing all 8 and all the piston rings

Cheers for advice in advance

If you are going to go you the trouble of stripping the engine right down to do this you would be MAD not to have top-hat ductile iron liners fitted - there are several companies that will do this for not a lot of money. TVR Power charge 270+VAT for the machining and 35+VAT for each liner - so 550+VAT.
providing your crank is ok and your pistons aren't fatigued at the bottom you should be able to rebuild using new rings, shells, mains etc.

Thats abit more than i wanting to spend really but if theres no way of just getting a single liner then may have to bite the bullet or possible hone the liner and go first oversize rings and replace all bearings

Dean,
There really is no point in doing that - It MIGHT work, but you have the engine stripped anyway and at least you can be sure that by having it done you are not throwing good money after bad.

Got the motor yesterday and after a thorough clean inside and out its looking nice as for the engine i think it has been falsly diagnosed because there is way to much oil in the sump as in its a third of the way up the dipstick and no one has took the motor out so i think a quick sump drain and get the oil level correct and we could be onto a winner also think there has been a water pipe removed from te back of then engine so got to refit that too
