Seen 3 or 4 cambelts snapped due to bump, or tow starting. Also snapped one myself after hitting a snow drift!

LOL!!! I'm now thinking that the bump I reverse it up when parking it dislodging a connection or something??? - it only seems to stop working when I get home!??? ...or am I grasping at straws?... taking it to a local electrical garage at the weekend to get it checked out but would welcome any 'stabs in the dark' meantime!
Its your negative connector on the starter (black wire). They are a standard electrical push fit connector prone to loosening especially if they have been disconnected. Just use a small flat edge screw driver to compress the aperture of the terminal.
Happens when over rough terrain, excessive engine movements etc.
Hope this is your gremlin
thank yu Taipan - but at least i tried - i did say poor electrical contact - just wrong place.
Glad yer got it sorted. . . un look after it and see them miles clock up. . . . .its not all doom un gloom. . . .I've had the exact same problem with my freelander for ages now and it was really getting to me. Thank god I read this forum.
