Just bought my first Landy!

Hi people,

As some of you know i was on here recently asking for advice on what Defender to purchase. I really apreciated all the feed back so thanks for that!

Well i went to Liveridge 4x4 on Saturday and i took the plunge, i have put £1000 deposit on a hard top 90 TD5.

Im well chuffed but still a bit nervous having driven 2.0 16v hot hatches for the past 10 years.

Its a hard top but they are putting some windows in it for me, also getting some plating on the side skirts and just above the lights. They are fitting 4 seats in the back and putting a step on the cross member.

They gave me some catalogues to look at while they sort it for me, im considering some other parts, maybe a roof rack or an A bar with some lamps?

Oh its Dark blue too, i think Caledonian blue, with a white roof. 44,000 miles on the clock.

Im happy but i have to wait 2 weeks until i can pick it up so im driving my wifes new mini cooper to work

Never mind! Anyways, anyone got and suggestions of what i may need fitting or deffo need fitting?

To be a propper landie you gonna need some dents and a leaky window

with all these floods a snorkel would be usefull. safari ones are cool, about £130 i think. a radio is also a big hit on long journeys but only fit one thats good enough to be audible over a 100db landy on the motorway.

Who knows about fitting cruise control switches to a TD5 Def 90?

Would that be chequer plating?

Are they doing all that in the price to clinch the deal or did they see you coming a mile off?

Get it, drive it, use it, then decide what you want to fit. what do you want to do with it? Tow stuff? Pay & play? Greenlaning? Skool run? Sell drugs? They all need something different from a winch to blacked out windas!

Yer deposit was nearly as much as mi Land Rover.

I've bought a 110 for less than that before now and me series3 was a 1/4 the price

Got the dents, two little ones above the passenger door handle, nothing impressive though, maybe i will drive it into the gate post to sort that. Yeh it is chequer plating, also they might have seen me coming cause i turned up and pointed at it and said how much? and then paid for it, they are putting the extras one though which is good of them.

I checked in the back of some LR magazines to see similar and they are all going for about the same amount. Its one of those where im sure i could get one cheaper but i wanted it there and then so whats the point in waiting.

Iam gonna drive it a bit then decide on the extras, i do dig on those snorkels but with all the drug dealing im planning on i think im gonna have to tint the windows and get some tiger skin seats. niiiice!

i think the next purchase will be a roof rack wit the ladder and then some light gaurds and an A bar, then i think the roof mounted machine gun.

Tis easy mate!! Just put your wife in the drivers seat an sit in the back with a beer and go cruize.

The TD5 in a 90 is great and has lots of power. If you are used to a bit of poke getting a chip will greatly improve performance - if thats notenough then an intercooler is on the cards.
For looking good you need an ABS Abar with 2 spot lights and a snorkel.

A steering guard makes the front end look better too.

Just a thought, all the people who keep telling me they bought stuff for half the price or quarter of the price etc etc i havent actually said how much it cost me? But still im impressed. (honest)
