that's very odd indeed that is.
Yep, my guess is that someone needed it for something and just unbolted the shaft. Its not been off for long, no rust where the CV bolts on.
Look in the FAQ section - All you need to know is in there.
Groovy, thanks. Will go through the FAQs!
Clonks and bangs from the IRD and diff and signs of the vcu being seized! Do a search on testing them there's loads of good info on it. Or get it to bell engineering they seem very well respected from what I hear. The vcu can do a lot of damage so it's important to have one in good working order
Cheers, that's good advice. Bell engineering are a bit of a trek from here, so I might try and find someone a bit more local to Southampton.
At the moment, there's a whining noise whenever the car is moving. It's not linked to the revs (i.e. doesn't happen at standstill), isn't linked to which gear I'm in, and isn't linked to braking. It's like a rumbling sort of noise, sounds like something rubbing.
I'm thinking it might be the VCU and rear propshaft making a noise as it freewheels in the dodgy shaft bearings, does that sound like a potential culprit?
