Jumping out of gear resolved

I've had a long term problem with my '79 109 diesel jumping out of 1st, 2nd and 3rd in overrun.
Problem has gone away now that the front most rear prop shaft mounting bolts were tightened. The bolts were very loose and the prop could easily be moved on its mounting. I'm assuming this caused vibration or knocking enough to knock it out of gear. Just a thought. Anyway, prop shaft mounted properly, now not jumping out of gear.

Has any damage been done by the prop being loose? Considering you said it was a long term problem

Yes, but wear is a constant problem.

There was some damage to the metal surrounding the prop mounting but seems superficial. I've no doubt that deeper damage has been done but I'm not in a position to strip down a work vehicle to have a look - I know I'm setting myself up for future breakdowns but that's a constant issue anyway.
Landy worked well in the deep snow last night taking supplies to a remote farm house so that's good enough right now.

Fair, it’s frustrating when it’s a work thing and not your own decision, always feel like saying told you so when it inevitably goes wrong in the near future

It's just a bad time of year. We're a close knit community in this part of Wales and we're all helping each other. The inevitable repairs can come later when the living's easier

unless your in low or 4wd theres no torque in the prop so apart from hole damage etc i wouldnt think its hurt the box

ok,yes that would have aggravated any wear in the box
