Juddering whilst driving

do the ujs and see if the squeek goes, if you get under and start pulling at the props, you'll prolly notice which ones rough

I did pull at them, and they moved a bit, but not excessively.. Not sure how bad it would have to be to cause the rumble/judder/squeak that I am hearing/feeling.. What u did notice was the short prop's splines move, where it joins it's sleeve..

Play in the slide will throw the whole prop out of balance. Could be front or rear, unless you have free-wheeling hubs the front prop is driven by the front wheels in 2wd.

To check the wheel bearings in a Series forget about listening for rumbling when driving.....get the wheels off the ground and spin them.

Have you worked out the level and drain plugs for the gearbox and transferbox yet? It's kinda important.

The play is in the front prop, I have FWH's so it's not moving at present, however I will sort that as soon as I can.

Yes, worked out the level plugs, I was stupidly thinking the gearbox had two, when the rear one was for transfer box, that was the one I had to fill (took a litre-ish).

Passenger wheel bearing had water in it. Cleaned out now, but may need to replace.. I greased it, but it makes a noise, when spun, more than other side, but spins freely.

Replace it with timken or a decent make, also if you leave your finger on when you spin it, you can usually feel when they are rough.

Currently battling with UJ's on rear prop... Grrr! They a bugger!! Soaked in plus gas next to radiator, leaving overnight while a friend drops off a heavy duty pair of molies to get the old ones out, and put some good GKN ones on.. Got new nuts and bolts, the splines are good tho, but I think the old UJ's were toast! Could be the answer... Hopefully, it hasn't wrecked the transmission bearings!! :-/ looking forward to getting up hills better now! Still got the balljoints to do, and the power steering seals! (Whoops, have I opened a can of worms?) only not enough sunny, rain free hours in the day!!! And other commitments suck!! I am on a roll, I just want to sort everything, now.

Got UJ's on, finally, don't want to do that job again in a hurry!!
Thought I'd check the transmission brake while I had everything off.. Surprised to find a brake shoe spring had expired, allowing gravity to help one shoe to dangle on the drum, causing... An annoying juddering.... ! Problem solved :-/ getting new springs, shoes, and oil seal... Happy to find out what was wrong, and solve other issues at the same time.

Propshafts are matched and balanced halves why would you want to assemble un balanced halves , by being lazy and cutting one up?

this is my next job, nuts and bolts are spinning on the handbrake side, nut splitter or grinder job methinks!
