Judder During Idle After Start Up - Help!!!

So I just bought a 2002 Freelander TD4 GS with 57,000 on the clock, FSH and 1 previous owner. The vehicle has come from a reputable dealer, with a full service, full new MOT and a comprehensive 3 month warranty.

Before taking delivery of the vehicle the dealer had to replace the in fuel tank pump after diagnosing it as the fault due to engine warning lights.

After driving the 30 miles home, then going back to use the car 2 hours later. On starting the car from cold the car started juddering and shaking as if it was going to stall. It didn't actually stall, and after around 10 mins driving it seemed fine.

However, it is now doing the same thing every time it's started, cold or otherwise and it's taking longer to rectify after setting off.

Now two new issues have come up. One is when I switch the engine off there is a whirring sound for about 30 seconds coming from the engine bay. It sounds a bit like some one parked around 20 yards away has there engine revved at 2000rpm constantly.

Secondly, there is a clacking sound coming from towards the rear of the vehicle. It sounds like something trying to pump something, but its running dry.

I'd be really grateful for any advice regards what this may be so when I return it under warranty for repair I have an idea if they diagnose it correctly.

Take it back to the dealer and ask them to check the vacums hoses all around the engine, then possibly the injectors and lastly the low pressure fuel pump and filter.
it the best i can offer as you still have 3 months warranty.

The Fuel Burning Heater takes a little while to wind down. If you only make a short journey, and the FBH has kicked and not finished doing it's thing, it can make a noise after ignition is turned off.

It sounds like a pump running on the near side front of the car.

What he says above. If you're not used to an FBH, the whooshing sound on wind down can be a bit disturbing.....

So the dealer has offered me my money back rather than fixing the vehicle, even though he hasn't had the vehicle back to look at yet.

All he knows is what I've told him about the issues that have arisen. However, I've also said that rather than taking it back to him to fix, I'd rather take it to Land Rover and get it done under warranty.

Seems strange to me he'd offer to refund me. Any ideas, does this sound dodgy to anyone?

definitly sounds dodgy, I would ask why he would want to give the money back when it could be a easy fix, as for your warrenty it would not be with Landrover it would be with him, it could be that pump again he could have cut corners if you know what i mean

The warranty is with 'car care plan' and is fully comp, which means you can take it to any VAT registered garage for repair.

However, due to the vehicle only just having come off the forecourt. The concern is that the warranty company will say I need to return to the dealer and I will then have to pay for the diagnostic from the Land Rover garage.

If I was you take it back and get your money back and find another from somewhere else.
