had a sort of easy day today got me seat box sorted and out of the way and done a little on the bulkhead vents while waiting for paint to dry







on another note me mate over the street brought a few old air tools over sanders air drills screwdrivers schults guns and so on asking if i could service them and sort them out for him no problems

i done what he asked and took them over to his place with them all working perfectly and in return he gave me some old cardboard box with the explaination that it worked last time he used it and that was over 20 years ago

and i havent uploaded the friggin pic grrrrrrrrrrrrr

i took it in the shed put a 13 amp fuse in plugged it in gave it the usual quick touch checking for any shorts grabbed it pulled the trigger didnt get thrown out into the garden by it then had a meddle with a couple of scraps and it works a fekkin minter



yet another incredible triumph for me collection of ancient dodgy tools

thats a nifty tool, i dont think the mot man would like it tho lol

i dont think the MOT man will be too fussed about it being used on the vent edges and door seal grooves on the bulkhead and anywhere else sneaky and tricky like that

its still being investigated by the motor heritage museum sourceing the original manufacturers serial numbers from the landrover archives the only comment hes made is that the chassis is a 6000 number wich is hard to trace with it being such a wide year range between the number segments

he said if its before a 4000 number its deffo series 2 2a from early 60s ish and anything 5000 was generally military or export during this period and 7000 numbers were late 70s to early 80s with a different preface and an extra digit

the numbers i have given him all tie in its just finding when these parts were assembled but it was deffinately solihull factory stamping

once i have the numbers verified i then have to join a landy club and get someone official from there to add his/her threppence worth on paper

then go to a specialist landrover parts supplier ( dunno weather this means main stealer or somewhere like paddocks or what ) to get a blank chassis plate stamped up with this number then send the whole lot off to the DVLA for an age related registration plate and certificate of authentication of that

bloody long winded way round things but its by the book and bulletproof

i dont think i wanna sell it after this level of graft gone into it i might lay a wager on whats gonna happen first

will i finish the resto or will i get it registered its a flip of a coin job really

ive just got this fear at the back of me mind resulting in nightmares of it being a stolen never recovered from decades ago as 40 years is a bloody long time and anything can happen in that space of time

Don't put it on top of the axle- what would happen when the axle hits the bump-stop? Flattened pipes and no brakes, I've seen it happen. Route them in the middle of 'at the back and on the top'

i have had a comment from an ex copper that lives in the flats overlooking me garden saying that even the ringers n chop shop runners of the 90s werent this fast and if he didnt know better hed swear blind i was an ex cut n shutter

the fellas even been down for a smoke and chat a couple of weeks back and was quite bemused to say the least as to why im going to these lengths with it

i just told him that with 2 kids and the way this country is going financialy and the rising cost of livving such as gas n lecci costs going skywards insurance getting extortionate
ill never be able to afford a brand new car so im doing me best to make one out of something that has history and needs looking after

he couldnt think of anything to say to fault me on it appart from stating he wished hed done something like this when he was my age rather than going out boozeing n chaseing women

Theres summat to be said for both, but these days i'd rather be doing summat like you

and heres me begining to believe people when they call me weird when they ask and i tell them what im into

i cant and completely fail to see what the the point is in watching things like football and rugby to me it looks like a bunch of neandathol's running around a field for 90 minutes chaseing a friggin ball gettin paid in one week what we all work damn hard for for 2 years or more

id respect football more if it was back to the 50s when footballers did it for the love of playing the game not the money and fame

i cant see the point of going out friday saturday night getting blind drunk then loseing the following 24 hours nursing a hangover and feeling **** not only physicaly but mentaly when i check the bank balance the next morning

its just not life where im concerned ive done all me boozing drug taking pukeing dossing and shagging abbout during me late teens and early 20s when i didnt know any better something me younger brother has just hit the point of why the **** am i doing this and what am i going to have to show for it all ;;;;answer nothing !!

Yeah I’m feeling the same on my rebuild, I don’t think we all realise just how much work is involved in these projects; and once you start there seems to be no turning back, whatever you think it will cost double it, if it doesn’t take over your life then it takes forever. I think I need to get to the pub to get a break. In fact I’m getting the bike out the weekend and going to do some greenlanes; that will clear my mind.

Yeah but it's all worth it,I've been out in mine for the first time after 5 months of working on it,even took 3 weeks of work to finish it as it was taking forever,but as soon as I heard the rumble of the V8 through the countryside i realised why I did it

Keep at it fellas,you won't regret it
