That's taking great shape. The profile of the vents looks fantastic!
I can't weld and went to a well known LR specialist in December as my bulk head needed work. They were umming and arring as to if they could weld in a new lower door post and drivers foot well. They eventally decided they probably could but wanted best part of £650 + vat!
Great skills and patience you've got there.

just a bloody shame i cant get a job doing this kind of thing as i havent got any written proof i can do this sort of thing exept for this thread

id love to earn a crust doing this stuff :D:D:D:D

£650  how bad is your bulkhead? Buy a welder or get some more quotes.

i was thinking that bulkheads and front grilles are the biggest buggers for rotting

therefore i was gonna wait till ive done me resto and got on the road then start reconditioning bulkheads and front grilles mainly as just a hobby and to just cover me matereals gas and lecci but id probably get rollocked for spamming now :D:D:D

Even if you got the bulkheads for free:eek:
How many days approx to repair plus materials, unless you labour rates are going to be as low as Ed China's it could be an expensive hobby mate.

I'm sure there is a market for bulkhead refurbs. Look what Ashtree galvanised ones cost - bulkheads and front panels etc. They supply all over europe. I saved up and ordered one of theirs in the end as mine had been repaired badly in the past and could end up throwing more money at it in the long run, not being able to weld myself. Costly, but I plan to keep my old girl.
Some people have waited up to 9 months for an Ashtree bulkhead according to other posts on forums so i'm confident there is demand. Most are exchange bulkheads - they give you £100 for your old bulkhead.
If you know a good galvanisers locally and you are a good fabricator then i reckon it's a decent business proposition. Start up costs couldn't be that much really to start off slowly??

ive got a bulkhead you can have for free if you want. there are plenty of pics on my othere thread. the pace you have set with your resto it should only take you a day to sort it then stick it on flea bay with a reserve of £500 at least. your work is top notch. have you thought about it warping whileits off the chassis?

i was thinking of more like to start with if i get my hands on a bulkhead and make that mint that could be advertised in the for sale section here as a part ex for another at a set price to beat any opposition

i dont think ill be doing galvanised ones as that could be the downfall of the pooeration with not only cost but with the fact that bulkheads can and will warp with the electroplating process and would need sandblasting aswell adding extra cost

warping shouldnt be a problem as ive got it sat in mid air but have written all the dimensions and mesurements down and check them evry time i do an area and the way im doing this one is triple skinning the entire bottom half in the footwells and cheek pannels to gain emmense strength and possibly reduce noise levels in the cab without slapping dyna mat evrywhere thatll be a nightmare to remove if it ever needs welding deccades from now

well either way its a way of making a few quid doingwhat your good at and you enjoy it

a little more done on the bulkhead but nowhere near as much as i was expecting to do as i found half the passengers door post to be packed full of pollyfiller and had to split the thing wide open to dig it all out as when it cought light it stank of god knows what and plenny of black smoke it were a bugger to put out aswell

god only knows how this bulkhead stayed in one piece in the first place as most of the previous repairs arent even welded theyre glued with household silicone sealant and trowel mastic occasionaly the odd pop rivvet ive had to weld up all the existing patches before i can begin with my overskin

but still got round the inside of both the vents today so not a total loss of time back hacking comedy workmanship
