Hi People,

I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year :)

I am thinking about putting some mounts for Jerry Cans on my Freelander, but I don't know where to mount them.

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks

i thought about getting a mount for my Jerry can. Was gonna roofrack mount it. But it's only every been a passing idea!

I just fitted GG at2 in a 225/70/15. Wish I would of went to a 235/75/15 which would of fit perfectly in my 15x6 rim. No lift or spacers on mine.

either roofrack, or strap onto the spare wheel, like some bike carriers do (albeit, this can be expanded out as an idea, to use a steel frame/etc)

Failing that... put it in the boot

EDIT: another idea, would be to make a frame to hold a jerry can, then mount the rear number plate to it, and an additional numberplate light (remove the bulb from the original)

Here's some inspiration from various UK outlets.

Simple option seems to be to tie them on the roof rack as already suggested.

Maybe weld something onto a custom mount on the back also?

See the Defender? I like the idea of a 'custom' window frame for the FL (they aren't made). To do this we'd have to get a large group buy to make it cost effective and someone to kindly manufacture them for us to fit the shape of the Freelander! Also you'd need to take your side panel trim out to fit to drill the bodywork. Bettter Pic of Defender window grill linked: http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/acatalog/ssteelgrills5L.jpg

To be honest about this first of all is there not fuel stations on this drive also I would never mount a Jerry can on the back just in case someone ran into the back then you may loose the car also insurance may not pay up.

I know they have mounts front and rear but usually these are for things like crossing deserts not on ordinary road runs and you can still probably still get the cans and fittings from anchor supplies

you can get a tray for the towbar bolts on between the hitch and taw bar, usually used for carrying mobility scooters my dads got one folds up when not in use ( can be removed for day to day running via some pins) similar to this

there's quite a few on the market of differing sizes.

or you could always try the wide side steps and attach somehow ..

Thanks for all the help here guys, I'm going to be driving through a lot of mountains ranges, I do not know if there are any fuel stations on route, so just wanted to take some fuel in cans as backup.

Can't put them on a roof rack as I haven't got 1, but I do have a roof box.

I like the side window mounts, but I don't think you're allowed to have fuel cans stored on any side, front or back on a car in the UK? correct me if i'm wrong though

I have the one holding the yellow cans.. Its useless (HANNIBAL) I find the bolts which hold it together chafe the cans. to the point where they are thinning.
