Jeep Grand Cherokee battery question

I wish to know the exact characteristics of the battery for my Jeep
Grand Cherokee TD 2.5 (09/1998).

Mine is a "Heros" 6HN6 Type 58026 - 12V 80Ah
340A (DIN)
400A (IEC)
600A (EN)

(*) I'm not quit sure about what all this codes mean.

The original battery has been substituted few months ago by the former
owner and happens that if I o not use the vehicle for some days (3/4)
the battery looses all his power and the engine cannot start at all!

The local Chrysler dealer told me the maximum power of the new battery
isn't enough so the battery looses his power when ether I start the
engine.

Varta reckon you want a type 096. Yuasa reckon you want an 010. Midac
think you want a 56318. To be honest they're pretty much equivalent -
Midac's DIN type 56318 is 63Ah, 510A EN, 300A DIN, Varta's is 74 Ah,
680A EN.

That's a "better" battery (more Ah and more amps) than Midac's
recommendation, and only slightly less amps than Varta recommends. In
my opinion it should be up to the job.

IMO the problem you describe isn't likely to be a battery problem,
it's an electrical fault elsewhere on your JGC resulting in a
parasitic load.

I would humbly suggest that the dealer is talking from his or her
nether regions. Even if your battery wasn't powerful enough, the
dealer's explanation is quite frankly ludicrous.

if your battery is not of the sealed type, place it on charge for 6 hours
then test each cell with a Durometer.

while a spark test will appear to show a good battery, the only way is the
correct SG of the liquid in each cell.

I must admit I have also had battery problems, mine is 99 and it had the
original battery in it but I only have to leave the interior lights on
overnight and it is flat, just seems o be a Jeep fault, not that it was what
you were asking about mind you but thought I would mention it anyway.

You folks are describing dead fan belts or dirty battery connections.

Either will only put a surface charge into the batteries so they won't
last with even the smallest drain on them.

The fan belts are sneaky SOBs!

They can look fine and be properly tight and still slip under load.
Jeeps are very susceptible to this because they see dirt and mud. Here
in Canada, we call mud 'liquid sandpaper'. It will polish up a belt so
it has no more grab. When I mud run I go through at least 3 fan belts a
year.

I test mine by having a cold off engine and trying to hand turn the
alternator pulley. If I can hand slip it, the belt is cooked or loose.
An alternator takes a few horsepower to spin up under load and if I can
hand spin it, no way will it ever give a full charge.

I then end up with dead batteries after it sits for a day or two.

Same deal for battery connections. Here in Canada where they use
literally tons of salt on the roads, the battery terminals corrode
within 2 or maybe 3 years and cut down on how much the battery will
charge. They don't look particularly dirty, but they don't pass full
power.

I must admit I have also had battery problems, mine is 99 and it had the
original battery in it but I only have to leave the interior lights on
