So, this box isn't in a Freelander. It's in a VW Sharan 2003.
But it's the same (essentially) box. And I know Land Rover owners are more likely to tinker than get rid.
So, the car starts and drives, but holds 2nd gear.
Once it finally goes into 3rd gear, it's absolutely fine for the rest of the day. Turn the car on and off, park it up for a few hours, it's fine. Selects all gears and drives fine.
If left overnight, it does the whole holding onto 2nd gear again.
The car won't allow you to manually select 3rd gear when it's doing this, but will allow you to go back to 1st.
We stuck it on a snap on diagnostic, and no codes were seen.
We changed the oil (refilled properly and checked at temp whilst running). Oil looked dirty, but it is on 160,000miles.
It's leading me to think we have a solenoid issue.
My next move is to check the resistance through the connector.
But just wandering if anyone has had this issue? Or can point me in the right way about quicker.
Thanks
