Hi guys and girls, my jap re-import p38 is doing me in! How on earth do you get the original, japanese waveband radio out? I'm old enough to listen to radio2 but I'd like a change (and the cd changer dosen't work)! And it's the Harmon Kardon amp system, so I've got my work cut out! Any help or advice will be gratefully received, thanks Davef

if yours has the HK head unit (although jap spec) it comes out if you slide 2 thin pieces of metal (like mini hacksaw blades) into the horizontal slots on the upper edge of the uniot. It then simply pulls out so you can disconect the multiplugs
You should then be able to replace it like for like with a UK HK (Apline) head unit from a UK bar/breaker, just make sure you get the 4 digit code as well

your close to newcastle then? its part of the national curriculum there lol! i can say that cos im originally from walker in newcastle (well somone has to be)
go to a brakers and study how to get it out there (it dont matter if the dash gets damaged )

Thanks everyone, radio now out, just to be different, the jap spec radio needs really small allen bolts tightening thru 1 hole on each side, or you could do like me and ease the unit firward enough to spring it out using jewellers screwdrivers, what a clart on. I hope the adapter leads specific to clarion 10 pin unit works on my blaupunkt dab headunit

the blaubunkt might not operate all the amps of the HK sysrtem and you will probably also lose the steering wheel controls for the stereo - how did you get on??

Haven't fitted it yet, BUT ebay and nexxia both claim adapters to plug and play on the HK amp system, also Blaupunkt head unit has 3 rca outputs for amps which I'm told is what I need thru forums, so I'm hopeful. I'll keep you all posted. Hole in dash at present-and there's the christmas link so MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Nexxia doesn't work, lots of whines. It's a piece of skit. I got a refund from them. A member from Australia got the same thing. Those guys asked us to ground all the amps or use RCA filter without any good result. Lots of money and time trashed there
The fact that they uses 3 RCA outputs is a big mistake. Because of them i had a limited choice of HU.
With a home made amp box, i was able to drive all the stock amps and only use one RCA output (for the subwoofer).
I now sell those in France as complete kits including aerial converter and finishers radio trim.
Still working on a solution for the steering wheel control as Nexxia's lost the wiring diagrams for this...

apparently tetleys(who own carlsberg) are moveing down south.
and to top it all off the rangie ripped its grear box out too this week and wife says "now im out of work cant afford to fix or run her" so looks like im gona have to hang up my boots and drive around in her vectra
could life get worse?

Oh **** mate. Don't get a micra or you'll lose the will to live. Mind you a 5 series smacked into the back of my Rangie today and gave my wife whiplash big time. the Rangie's ok tho apart from some scratches! Priorities!! Don't lose hope, been laid off 3 times in 2011 and my mum died, what a **** year
