If you're flexible about when you want it delivered the price can be very reasonable, the jobs are often combined with others on the same route to keep the price down. You enter the details of what you want moved and where and then van companies 'bid' for the job; I've used them before with no problems without the aggro of hiring a trailer, recruiting help, taking a day out to do the job etc.

I have just picked the axles up from the shot blasters, time to crack on with the primer now
What would be the best way to get a chassis delivered from Richards chassis to me in reading, it's a 200mile trip and they want £170, im sure I could get it cheaper than that somewhere
Hi mate. Great rebuild. Like your style. I'm starting mine on the 22/03/15 so thinking of doing a thread like this. Can I just ask(don't tell me if you don't want to) can I ask how much did your chassis cost from Richards and how long did you have to wait. It's because when I do mine I'm thinking of repairing the old one but I could be tempted to put it on a galv if there not to dear.

Says it's going to Reading (Yes his location says both). But even if it was going to Leeds, Richards in Doncaster are still closer

Iv just put the details of it into a site like this, hopefully I'll get some good quotes.
I haven't actually ordered it yet, I was meant to do it today but I got distracted playing with my axles but the price on there website is £1580 including VAT. That's for a 300tdi 90 chassis, with the bolt in gearbox crossmember and td5 rear crossmember with rear fuel tank mounts, but atm I'm undecided about the td5 crossmember & fuel tank mounts as I did plan fitting both the side and the rear fuel tanks So I coukd run my split tank veg oil system but I think I might go back to running straight diesel as Im going to be investing quite a bit of money into this rebuild and I don't want to ruin the engine
I'm from Leeds but I'm currently working and living just outside Reading so I need it down here.

But was told to be their early (8:30-9:00) so he's not waiting about for people. He told me it's because some take the **** and turn up at 4pm when told to come in a morning and he's had to wait about all day.
So I guess that's the other plus of collecting in person.

Ref the rear tank brackets, I went with them, albeit from Marslands, and am running both tanks for diesel with a switch over valve which should give me 110 litres per fillup. The valve works awesomely, but I had a couple of problems with the exhaust (though it should have fit) and the filler is still giving me some headaches but when it works it will be worth the effort.
IMO it is probably worth running a rear tank instead of a side one as they are plastic instead of metal so don't rust and quite a lot bigger.

i have some thinking to do about the twin tanks, I might just get the brackets added so i have the option to have two tanks in the future

i spent this afternoon applying red oxide primer to the axles and the back plates, then once it was dry i applied the first coat of rustoleum combicolor, hopefully i be able to slap another coat on tomorrow night.
Its nice to be getting somewhere with the build now, and the axles are looking pretty good with the new black paint.
i need to pop around to my local nut and bolt supplier now so i get all the bolts i need to rebuild the axles.

I have ordered my chassis from richards tonight and gwyn lewis is sorting me out a a full suspension kit and i have also enquired about getting myself a galv bulkhead too. I can't wait to start putting it all together.

They said 6 to 8 weeks, so hopefully I'll have it by the end of March
which is good timing for me as I'm going away soon and I won't be back until around then.
